Radio Shack tried to jump on the phone and electronic toy bandwagon but couldn't compete with other stores selling the same crap. I remember going to Radio Shack to use their tube tester and to buy new tubes when needed. Bought the breadboard kits and the transistors/diodes/capacitors/clock crystals/LEDs/resistors/ICs/solar cells needed to do science fair projects. Now I have to order that stuff ( to build gaming panels ) from Mouser since all of the real electronics hobby stores have also closed. Radio Shack lost their way and it is their own fault for their demise. They should have never strayed away from serving the electronics hobbyist.

Radio Shack is in bad shape closing 552 stores in early 2017 and there are many other stores that are hurting and closing stores as well.

Bad time for brick and mortar retail. As for some, like CVS...omg, some overbuilt. I felt like I saw more CVS's than Starbucks! Crazy!

Mark CVS recently lost business from BlueCross BlueShield and Trimark. That has to hurt. Their ratings are low for customer service and prices. There's increased competition from grocery stores that have had retail pharmacies and are now opening up walk-in clinics.

True...and they had over-built vs. what the market could bear also. Poor planning. Then there is Sears/KMart/JC Penney...failing for years.
