Yes, the thread is deliberately provocatively titled to draw eyeballs. And if you expect a critical review, you're absolutely wrong.
I decided to look over the product page for the BASX Subwoofers this morning. Initially, I liked the looks, the sizes, and the prices. And then...
I noticed that the darned things are ported. Bleah!
A sealed sub with a more powerful amp might have tempted me (probably not enough to pull the trigger immediately, but at least have tempted me). I understand that the average BASX customer isn't interested in sub-20 Hz. bass, so I can understand why the subs are what they are. For HT use, as well as for 99.9% of music listening use, I bet they're seriously kicking subwoofers. But...
Maybe when Emotiva offers their full X-series subs, they'll offer some world-killer, sealed-box, big-driver, large-volume, mega-watt subwoofers. I hope so.
Now all that said, my tastes in subwoofers are in the 1% range of customer demand. So 99% of the potential buyers should be absolutely thrilled with the new BASX subs. I'll bet they sell like hotcakes too. So even though I'm personally not a customer for these new subs, I'm betting that YOU would be thrilled. Really!
After all, there's so much to like - Price - Solid construction - Emotiva quality - Generous range of driver sizes - High reliability - Super customer service - Free trial period - Great design - Oh, and did I mention price?
So despite my personal antipathy for this particular line, I will easily and enthusiastically recommend the BASX subwoofers to family, neighbors, and friends with high confidence that they will all be really, really, (REALLY) happy.
It just so happens that I am not the target market for these products. My loss...
Cheers - Boomzilla
