Hello All,
Just wanted to see if the group could help me out with a problem. I have an 8100 that I purchased in 2014. I was going to buy one new, but the salesperson on the phone told me that they had some factory renewed options that were "as new" and carried the same amount of warranty as the new. Being someone who tries to not take undue monies away from my family, I thought it would be a prudent decision to purchase one of these units and save a couple hundred dollars.
The unit sat in the box for about a year while I completed our family theater, and all of the speakers I run are either Emotiva or Dayton in-walls. This receiver gets very little use because I have small children, and no time to really watch movies, so a realistic estimate is about 3-5 hours a month at most.
After about a year (so 50-75 hours on the unit) it started to develop a distinct popping noise coming from the left rear surround channel. I sent the unit in for repair, and after a couple weeks I got the unit back stating that some transistors had been replaced, and also the volume knob looked to have had damage in shipping, and it was replaced. I found the volume knob kind of odd since it was shipped in original Emo packaging, with no damage to either one of the boxes, nor the styrofoam inside. After about 2 movies, I noticed the popping noise returned (maybe was never fixed?) and the volume knob works sporadically at best.
I opened an new RA and returned the receiver to Franklin stating that the noise is still there and the volume knob doesn't really work. I was told that there was a high volume of returns, and that it would take 16-20 days to get it looked at. One month later I got my receiver back, and it looks to have the surround channel fixed...but the volume knob wasn't addressed. And now there is a new problem...
Because I don't have time to run REW and calibrate each channel individually, I usually relied on the auto room correction to at least give me a baseline EQ to start. Now when I start the auto EQ function, it sits on testing ambient room noise and doesn't advance. I have made sure that it is run in the room that is dead silent, and even kept the projector off to get it as quiet as possible. I use the supplied mic from emotiva, as well as a UMIK I have that I got with my minidsp. No luck.
Are there any other users out there that have any of these problems with their Fusion 8100's? I mean, I know this was a short run product from Emotiva, but it really seems like I have either a lemon, or the quality just isn't up to par with the other products. I know I will get preached at the virtues of Emotiva, with quality and value being the first things that most users will say is a definite with all things Emo...but I have several receivers from Japanese manufacturers that have been abused for years and still work as new.
Just as an FYI as well, I emailed and called Emotiva with no response. A fine fellow named Grayson took my call and said he would have to talk to one of his techs about it, but he has yet to call me back and it has been two weeks.
Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.
