Sonus Faber a truly magnificent loudspeaker. I have had to an opportunity on more than one occasion to hear a set of Sonus Faber loudspeakers. I have heard the Olympia 1 and 3’s. Recently, two days ago, I went to my local dealer and as we talked, he wanted me to hear a arcam streamer, so we both set it up. We listened to a Prima Luna Prologue Integrated tube amplifier with the Olympia 1’s connected with Audioquest go cables and Audioquest water interconnects. The music was streamed through Sonus, particularly internet radio because of some set up problems and account restrictions.
We listened to some music for 15 minutes with the Olympia 1’s and then the Vandersteen VLR and wow, I was blown away, with how much clearer the music was, the drums sounded like drums the guitars sounded like guitars and everything was placed further up front. Then we listened to the Vandersteen VLR, which sounded muted on all fronts with these speakers, I guess 6500 vs 1275, huge difference but with all other things being equal, these speakers, which are small on stands, but the vandersteen are much smaller with no tweaters or midrange. I heard the Venere series, 2.5 and 3.0 and they are very good, but not in the same league as the Olympic series.
The difference was night and day. I have heard the Olympia 3’s and it was like you were at a concert, even with vinyl. My point is despite all up grades you can do to a system, speakers and room placement are paramount. Sonus Faber from their Toy line (no longer in production) on up, this is a company that can make speakers and synergy and components placement is everything. How many of you have heard Sonus Faber speakers. The one thing my system is missing is the Sonus Faber Olympia, but at 13,000, I think my system will have to miss them a little longer, even though used/ demo online prices for Sonus Faber Olympia 3 are between $6500 and $8000 grand, these are not just good speakers they are fantastic and if you have the opportunity to audition a pair please do yourself and your ears a favor and just do it.
