I am very excited to install the new update tomorrow on my day off. ARC and use of my BTM have been my primary issues although, it seems like it has started to take longer for the audio to switch recently. I'll report back after Ive had the update installed for a few days.

Getting ready to try a 3rd USB drive. The first two were ignored by my MC700 so no 2.9.0 upgrade yet. Anyone else still having this problem?

Took me three different drives. The only thing different, that I could tell, was the third one was already formatted FAT32. Thee other two I formatted to FAT32 but I did not ever get them to work.

How could you determine if they were pre-formatted, by looking at 'Properties'? May be my problem. I even did a slow (ya-w-wn!) format on one, to no avail.

Probably not exactly what you want To hear, but I am assuming it was because I never formatted it before. So I imagine I bought it that way. It was from Microcenter.

I bought a Scan Disk 3.0 32g for $10 and didnt have any issues. The BTM now works but still no joy with ARC.

Nada! I also installed the heat-sink while I was working it, and looked around for anything obvious. That's 3 1/2 different usb flash drives. I say 3 1/2 because on the last one I deleted a couple of San Disk resident security files which made no difference. Also tried the update with no other cables connected except power. I then formatted that one stick which also did not produce anything positive. Hate to send this in for just this issue.

Attempted to flash the firmware today and I must have done something seriously wrong. When I power on the unit, all I see on the display is "Loading....."
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

As reported, harlan was kind enough to send me his drive, but no luck. It still would not load and boot into 2.9.0. I think I have a couple of old Verbatim 2GB drives laying around somewhere.. ......maybe there is still hope! I'd rather have nothing happen than a lockout. I wonder if the unit has a power reset routine that could clear any of these problems. I have not tried the factory reset from the menu..but is there a way to 'power reset' without the menu?

I should have quit while I was ahead. Unit didn't like the first two USB thumb drives and booted into the original firmware (2.8.1, I think ). It must have recognized my third and final thumb drive and the rest is history.
I followed the instructions to a T, so could someone who successfully flashed their firmware look over my steps and point out the error so others won't suffer the same fate?
1. Turned off unit using switch on the back. 2. Inserted USB drive. 3. Turned on unit using switch on the back. 4. Waited for yellow light to stop blinking. 5. Powered off the unit using the back switch. 6. Removed the USB drive. 7. Turned unit on via switch on the back and got the dreaded "Loading......" message.
Was I supposed to power on the unit ( using power button on front panel ) after step 4, before proceeding to step 5?

1. Turn off power with rear switch 2. Insert USB drive 3. Turn on power with rear switch
4. The update should load, and several seconds later it should power ITSELF on!
When it does, the rev will still be 2.8.7 Remove the drive, power down with rear switch. Power everything back on, 'normally' and the rev should now read 2.9.0
If step 4 does not happen...stop!!! everything off, drive not inserted, go back to using the previous rev until there is a fix.
The above is MY understanding...I never made it past step 4. So if I did wrong I am open to corrections!

Got it to work!
Called Emotiva support this morning and they sent me the 2.8.9 release. Using that, the update process worked and I was able to apply 2.9.0 on top of it.
My unit had the original firmware (2.8.1). Not sure if that had anything to do with my troubles. Here are the steps that worked for me.
1. Turn off power switch on back. 2. Insert USB drive with the .bin file on the root directory. 3. Turn on power switch on back. 4. Turn on unit using front power button. If it recognizes the USB drive, the status on the display will show the percentage of the update. 5. Turn off unit using front power button. 6. Turn off unit using back switch. 7. Remove USB drive. 8. Turn on unit and confirm firmware version.
I did the above steps for 2.8.9 and 2.9.0. Not sure if turning the unit off via back switch is necessary, but I did it anyway.
Immediately after the update completed, the display showed the new firmware version, which contradicts Emotiva's instructions.
Hope this helps. As always, your miles may vary...

Mark Did not work for me, but I am working from 2.8.7. Yes, your method contradicts Emo's instructions, however for those who have been successful with the steps given originally, will not have to power the unit on manually from the front button, it should power on automatically with the loaded firmware. I guess one unknown is if earlier firmware somehow affected how this update process works. Maybe not, may be you were just lucky it did work both times. Most are able to bump up from 2.8.7 just by trying a different flash drive if it does not work the first time. There is a fair amount of variation. I am waiting to hear someone used a USB to USB transfer cable to do the update. Not likely, but not much would surprise me anymore. Glad it worked for you, though!!

I've tried to update three times now with three different USB sticks. I'm disgusted at this point!

Guys, I/we tried everything (including a flash drive, that Keith KNEW worked, in his shop unit, and had sent to me), to get my 700, to accept the newest firmware, to no avail...until, I did a factory reset, on my unit. Poof - it worked perfectly. So, if you are having trouble, with your 700 accepting a firmware update, trying multiple different flash drives, do a factory reset, and try again! I was about to send back the unit, before I remembered, that the last time, I tried to update, I had to do the factory reset, first. As a precaution, I also took pictures, of all the menu pages, with the settings, before I did the reset.
