Hello all, I have been considering upgrading my current system to the XMC-1 ver 1.4 replacing my now ageing Anthem MRX-300 arc Im using for my Pre-pro. For my amp Im currently using the Outlaw 5000. I have B&W CDM 9nt L&R, B&W LCR600 s3 for center and DM603 s3s for the rears. Also duel Outlaw Ultra-X12 subs. Power conditioning is handeled by the Furman Elite 20-pfi. I would like to get opinions as to whether this would be an actual upgrade to my system. Comments are welcome. Thanks Fritz

Hmm. This is like asking "Should I buy Klipsch or Paradigm speakers" on the Klipsch forum.
What part of your Anthem don't you like? Both pieces will give you excellent audio quality. Compare the features between the two and see if the XMC-1 offers anything that the Anthem doesn't.
Oh - welcome to the nuthouse.

Is there anything about your anthem you dont like or anything that you feel is missing? All i can say is that the XMC-1 is a great processor and used it without running dirac for quite a while ,it sounded that good. I dont see a new processor anywhere in my too near future. It does not disappoint.

I had an MRX-700 that I changed for a UMC-1 that I changed for an XMC-1. Each step was an improvement in sound quality.

Try it out. It will be a fun experiment for the worst case cost of return shipping. Less than a night at the movies.

You will have the advantages of either parametric EQ or DIRAC with the XMC-1. DIRAC for me is much better then ARC and much more customizable too if you want to take advantage of that. I have both the XMC-1 and MRX510.

I recently changed from an MRX-710 to an XMC-1 + Outlaw Model 7700 combo. If you are in the market to upgrade your MRX300, the XMC-1 is a fantastic option but as mentioned by others, you aren't going from low to high end, it is a pretty lateral move.
I bought the MRX710 with the expectation that it would eventually become a pre/pro but upon hooking it up to the Outlaw I could hear a very audible hum coming from all channels. I tried grounding everything, isolators, cable changes, shut off every breaker in the house except the one used for the 2 pieces of gear, and plugging them into separate breakers; no change to the hum at all.
I tried to work with Anthem on the issue but if I was able to get them to even respond, they would not even exercise the idea that it could be something to do with the MRX710. My last contact attempt went unanswered. Hooking up the XMC-1 with either unbalanced or balanced cables to the amp results in a dead silence, not a hum even from an even inch away.
Regarding the sound quality difference, I won't say that it is anything drastic; both pieces are good quality. Not anything close to the improvement heard by using the Outlaw 7700 over the amp channels in the MRX710.
There was a very notable difference in the abilities of the room EQ systems though. I am not sure why ARC gets such great reviews as when using it for myself I didn't notice any subjective difference at all. My room is pretty decent acoustically with absorption at the first reflection points but running REW sweeps with and without ARC room correction enabled resulted in no measurable difference. It shows you some great graphs of what it wants to do but doesn't see to implement things to any degree.
Dirac Live is still not a ground breaking subjective difference for my setup but I am able to measure a clear correction to peaks on all channels. I still run a miniDSP for my subwoofer channel as it gives more flexibility and control but for the other channels it is a great feature.
Features of the XMC-1 worth noting over the MRX (710 in my case but still applicable): 1) Dirac Live; 2) Balanced outputs; 3) True dual SW outputs; 4) Smaller, lighter form factor; 5) Cooler operating temperature; 6) Manual Parametric EQ if you want to start a project that will eat all your time and soul; and 7) Remote control that doubles as a self defence tool.
