I will eventually move to a separate amp, undecided what way to go.. prob whatever pops up used first.. XPA2, 200, maybe 2 single channel XPAs?
Anyhow will my current amp 1st gen A100 mini x be ok as a preamp? Is there a better solution?
Thanks group!

It will not work as a pre-amp. The outputs are fixed not variable. If you plus another amp into the mini-x it will play at full volume bypassing the volume control. Not recommended unless you want to smoke your speakers.

Emotiva offers a cheap volume control called the control freak. If you want one with a box go for the Schiit Sys. Now keep in mind these are passive volume controls. They won't go louder than the maximum volume that the upstream component outputs - usually not a big problem.
