Hi Keith. Absolute honor to discuss my plight with my XMC-1 with you. Unit will be back with you this week to "unlock it". Will return to you folks for HDMI and Atmos/DTS upgrades when boards available. Plan to order XPA Gen 3 amp to power 4 ceiling Atmos speakers at that time ("Best to ask forgiveness than permission!"). Been doing some research. My theater is on the fourth floor of my home so installing ceiling speakers is easy. Looks like Definitive Technology DI 8R may be the way to go. What are your thoughts? My system is listed in my profile. Any plans to add Atmos compatible ceiling speakers to your lineup? Your equipment is absolutely of the finest quality with the best customer support that I have ever seen. Thank you for producing your equipment in TENNESSEE, USA!! Thank you once again. 1) I talked to Rory, who is our speaker guy. He says that all of Definitive Technologies ceiling speakers seem pretty good; however, he's inclined to prefer 6" woofers for ceiling speakers because it's easier to make a 6" speaker with good frequency extension and very little breakup. (I don't think it would hurt my feelings to bump the crossover point up a bit if necessary on ceiling speakerseither.) 2) We DO have some cool new speakers on the drawing board that will be designed to work as either in-wall or in-ceiling.... with our folded ribbon tweeters. They'll feature magnetically attached grilles and some interesting tweeter control options. However, at this point, I don't think we'll have them ready before early next year. Hi Keith. Thanks Keith. Appears to be plenty of time to execute ideas. Not in such a hurry that I can't wait to see what your speakers look like. Been married 38 years and if I spend money in small portions as opposed to big chunks then it tends to attract less attention and wrath. I still state "that it has s best to ask for forgiveness than permission"!! Best regards. Ty

In looking at height channel speakers, you may also want to consider the concept of timber matching. The current recommendation is to try and timbre match the height channels with the main bed channels to create a better envelope of sound. We recently replaced side surrounds in a client's theater that was using speakers with folded ribbon tweeters to blend in with his B&W speakers and what a difference it made once he switched over to all B&W. Find out what material McIntosh uses for their tweeters and try to match that if at all possible.
