Hello,
I am thinking about purchasing an XPA-7 used, i found one for sale, just wondering how warm/hot the unit gets with light use? and how much air/room it needs, i have an open rack but the distance to the top is only about an inch.

You'll be fine, I have about the same amount of space above my Sherbourn PA 7-350 and have no issues, grab that amp while you can. Chad

I purchased an XPA-7 Gen 2 about a month ago. I had a spare temp sensor so I threw it on top of the unit. Mine is completely open to the room and I only cranked it a couple of times. Max temp recorded was only about 85 degrees F. Pretty damn cool for an amp. Edit: here is a link imgur.com/gallery/1zE54

If you are STILL worried about the heat, plug the amp(s) in using a Kill-A-Watt meter. With nothing playing, all the power used will be HEAT. Playing at normal levels, check again. It's still mostly heat. Speakers are no more than about 1% efficient (some higher, some lower) while the amp from plug to speaker outs might run 50%, or so. Bottom line? A LOT of the power used in your stereo is simply used to heat up the room.
