Hey guys and girls, I need your help! I am currently biding on a XPA 2 Gen 2 amp that looks to be in good condition. It has two days to go to the end of the bidding. It is currently up to 580.00. I need your thoughts and help on how high to go with it. I dont want to over pay for it. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I think I typically see them for sale on here in the $700 range.

Th xpa2 is a flagship 2 channel amp. I've heard it myself, and it is truly a high-end amp. I've actually heard no amp better than it than the xpa1 gen 2 hough some tube amps of gotten around the same level of quality though I n different ways. If you are not planning on a xpa1 then this is a keeper amp. Just do it! It compromises on very little Some amps it has beaten : dynamo mark 4(?) Ayer class a amp. It was near the same level As those pricey Macintosh monobloc amps.

Gar, you named several amps which I don't see the common ground between Mac is usually a take-it-or leave-it type proposition. If I had higher sensitivity speakers which were tube-friendly, I'd head towards an MC275, maybe. Never heard the Dynaco MkIV. But if it is in the same 'family' as the Stereo 70? could be fine. The Ayer is what throws me, though. Current stuff is heavy (implies high bias, at least) SS amps. I've seen 'em at shows but never paid much attention, my focus generally being on speakers. No mention of several others in the running. Bryston? or Classe? both from the North. Huge list and I'll end it here.
So many amps, so little time.

A killer contender. With the exception of the former XPR-2, this was one high current swinging beast. Able to drive Maggie's and Logan's so easily. A favorite of mine in the oh my gosh catalog of Emotiva Amplifiers of all time.
As they say, the value is what you are willing to pay for it. I think too $700.00 is about right, but there is still allot of amps that cost more, does not mean they'll necessarily do more than the XPA-2.

The Ayer was a 100 watt class A amp from a previous decade. I was just trying to list some of the amps I thought performed well that I thought the XPA-2 did well against. Also it does better than the smaller Emo amps with the main difference being the speed of dynamics, more coherent soundstage and bass extension. However the monoblock modules when they come out may give it some stiff competition!

Thanks I paid $600 for my XPA-2 Gen 1 (it was the only Gen back in the day) in October of 2010 that was 2 years used (they originally went for about $800), if that gives you any indication of cost. The Gen 2 stayed between $800 and $1,000 through its run. The new Gen 3 XPA is at $1,000. In my opinion, the sweet spot for this amp would be in the $700 to $800 range. If you get it for less, pat yourself on the back and brag to everyone that you got a great deal. Anytime you can save 20% off what you would have to pay for new (even though it's a older version), it's a good day. And, just to through this out there about the XPA-2; when talking to the person that designed the amp he said that other than the XPA-1, the XPA-2 has the most unique sonic signature of any Emotiva amp (of the day).

Thanks Hey Fritz, check out the Emporium link here in the lounge. I believe there are at least two XPA-2's available. Both at competitive prices!

I've heard a few systems which simply sounded slow or fast. So many amps out there and some I could even 'aspire' to. IF I were only born rich instead of just good looking, I'd be all set.
