A complementary fully balanced high power headphone amplifier to the DC-2 that will knock our socks off says Dan and Lonnie. Thank you Emotiva and Crew ! Sounds like Lonnie made a headphone amplifier from a couple of XPA-1's. Lonnie is a mad scientist when comes to powerful amplifiers and I would love more details about it. Selectable gain has had limits with many headphone amps and all in one headphone amps that perform with high power are very costly. I have been waiting for Emotiva to get into proper headphone amps because they do very good amplifies for great prices. Fully balanced from the DC-1 would use both balanced outs on the DC-1. I wonder if they will put 4 balanced outs on the DC-2 ?

Did I forget to say that I heard them say that this headphone amplifier can do In Ear headphones to the most power hungry planar headphones ? What other headphone amplifier does that ? If it can do both very good and gets good reviews from the headphone gurus that are good, it will be a game changer.
Oh please be around $400 because that seems to be the price that people like to spend on headphones and amps. Not everyone is rich and can spend big bucks on headphone gear. There were many out there looking for a balanced headphone amp to mate with there Emotiva DC-1 a long time ago when it came out and Cavalli Audio came out with a little balanced headphone amp called the Liquid Carbon that was $800. I am sure there is good sound to come from it but it is in no means a power house that can do double duty with both In Ears and Hifiman planar magnetics.

Heard about this on the Podcast. Looking forward to it. Was also considering going for the DC-2 but apparently it will come in at a higher price-point so I'll just go for a used DC-1 for now. Going used in case Emersa actually pops up as an attractive product for a reasonable price. I don't think the higher pricepoint is smart considering the Jotunheim exists but we'll see what the DC-2 offers. What it sounded like was it adds DSD support and the like, not something I care about and not the type of thing I think would warrant a price increase in 2018.
I agree that Emotiva should look at $400 as an absolute limit on the headphone amplifier.

I have one and recommend those standing next to the fence to jump over it and get one before there gone. You can use it in so many ways it is silly. Main system to desktop to bedroom to portable. To an amp or powered speakers or headphone out. Mate it with the SP-1 and you have both multiple digital inputs and multiple analog inputs along with a phono preamp. You get the picture and the sound that goes with that picture can not be beat for the price.

$400? Ok then. Good luck. O ye, of little faith. These two pieces of gear if described without a price tag would sound much more expensive to someone. Emotiva TA-100 Stereo Preamp/DAC/Tuner with Integrated Amplifier $399 Emotiva A-300 Stereo Power Amplifier 150 watts RMS per channel; 20 Hz - 20 kHz; THD < 0.1%; into 8 Ohms $399 Maybe it cost twice as much ($800). Maybe Lonnie went all out with expensive parts and it cost $1000. That still is not a high price with a proper balanced high output do all headphone amp. Emotiva can do a good headphone amp for $400 because they have the expertise and manufacturing already cranking out unreasonably good gear for low prices. No one should curse them if it cost more because it needed to cost more to do what it does. What does it do ? This could be interesting to me because I study ever headphone amp out there from top to bottom. The one I want right now may cost $6000. The Cavalli Audio Liquid Tungsten. I want a very good headphone amp because with headphones detail gets right down into the grooves. I want power over and above and balanced output. I want a ship to shore radio and I don't care what it cost !

I am impressed with all Schiit's products. They are the Emotiva of the Desktop DAC, preamps and headphone amps. They spend more on building them and do a great job doing it and are worth every penny they charge for there gear.

There is plenty of room for both Dan and Jason in the DAC, preamp and headphone amp market. I want to see Both Dan and Jason be successful and if they change the landscape out there for real world prices on gear that really song good, that's a good thing.

I'm actually running the 598's. Very lively and detailed with a shtload of punch. I'm going to plug in the AKGs tonight, hopefully. The AKG's are a bit more laid back through the output on the OPPO (at least on my head) by comparison, so it should be interesting. DJ

OK, Checked out the AKG K701s last night with Peter Gabriel's "So". Outstanding presentation with more weight and solidity than running straight through the OPPO. The separation between the instruments seemed greater, and the vocals more 'there', if that mkes any sense. Once again, more laid back than the 598s. More open sound with a little less 'in your head' feel than the Senns. I actually prefer the AKG sound for rock, over the Senns through the OPPO, and that didn't change for the Schiit. I think my Senns will be my 'go to' for Jazz, folk and Classical, just like they originally were through the OPPO, while the AKGs will be my rock/techo/blues phones.
