Fellow Emotivans, need to pick your collective brains and tap into your wealth of knowledge.
For years I have used Plex on a Roku HD to stream HDTV OTA, recorded through a Hauppauge TV Tuner card in my PC, handled by Windows Media Center. The Plex Media Server on the same PC took care of the transcoding and streaming to the Plex app on the Roku. Piece of cake for several years.
Enters the Roku Premiere+... I do not know if it is only a weird coincidence, or the Roku app on the Premiere+ and/or the latest Plex Media Server software on the PC now handles things differently, but since I replaced the old Roku I keep having issues in streaming the OTA recording, which are in .wtv format.
First I got glitches with audio. Video would work, but audio sounded like it was accelerated 10X, with very high pitch. Solved that unchecking the "direct stream" box in the settings of the Roku Plex app.
Then, this afternoon, out of the blue, it has become impossible to stream ANY of the .wtv format recordings. No video, no audio, just starts loading, stops at 13% and after several seconds I get this window on the TV from the Roku Premier+ saying "Unknown Error: Playback has stopped due to multiple playback errors. Please check your connection and try again".
The connection is fine, as I can stream without any problem from all other services (Netflix, Amazon, Crackle and what not). I can also stream the videos I make with my phone, which I download on the same computer. Just like I did with the folder containing the recorded TV programs, I added the folder with those video in the Plex Media Server library on the computer.
I spent good part of the this afternoon searching blogs, forums and articles. Changed settings in both the Plex Roku app and Plex Media Server on the PC, to no avail. It is interesting to note that for years and until the first issue with the accelerated audio, I have always used the default Plex settings in both the Roku app and PC. In fact, the only thing I ever did with the Plex Media Server on the PC was to add the folder with the videos I wanted to stream and it just worked, no tweaking required.
This is driving me totally nuts, as I cannot find a logical explanation. I have removed and re-installed both the Plex app on the Roku and the Plex Media Server on the PC, including a clear install of the latter, after deleting config files, directories and registry entries and re-scanning all of my media.
Has anyone had similar issues? Any clue as to what might be happening? I really hope it is just a bugged update of the Plex Media Server for PC and that Plex will soon push a fixed version...
