There's a thread on the Dynaco forum in which the OP says the preamp he is using inverts polarity and that you need to invert the speakers polarity. In other words, connect the positive speaker wire lead to the negative terminal at either the preamp or speaker side, and the negative to the positive. Obviously don't switch them at both ends because then you haven't really switched anything. Then some others chimed in that several brands of preamps do the same thing. The suggestion seems to be to try it both ways and see which way sounds the best. Just thought I'd post this here as food for thought and to see if anyone has had any experience with this and heard differences. dynacotubeaudio.forumotion.com/t2389-vta-st-120-phase

If both speakers phases are inverted would it make any difference?

If both speakers phases are inverted would it make any difference? I have no idea. I guess it is saying that if you normally connect the red plug to the red output on the preamp and red input on the speaker, and black to black, then some preamps are inverted so that you need to reverse that one one side so you have red going to black and black going to red on both channels. Supposedly one way may sound better than the other depending on the preamp, based on what that thread is about.

I only see a necessity for checking for polarity if different amplifiers (aome which may invert and some which may not) are being used in a system. If the same amps are being used, just connect them in a consistent manner.
