MC-700 room correction loves the bass

I can't seem to get good results from the MC-700's built-in room correction.
I position the microphone face-up at roughly the location of the center listener's head. After awaiting the test tones, I played "Arrival".

Remember the scene where the government representatives return by helicopter to Louise Banks (the linguist) after initially rejecting her as a candidate for alien contact?
It sounded like an actual helicopter was in the room, and not in a good way -- neither I nor my guests could understand a word of dialog over the rotor sound. I temporarily remedied the situation by setting the MC-700 to "flat" and lowering bass somewhat.

I know that room correction is complex and cannot work with every system, but the MC-700's apparent preference for bass is unexpected, and I don't believe my setup to be that unusual.

My living room looks like the image below except that both subs are in the back corners facing forward, the rear speakers are set on top of them facing towards each-other, and rock wool sound dampening panels are installed over the windows and behind the front speakers (separated by about 6" since they are rear-ported).
The mic is set on the top of the couch headrest directly in front of the center channel.





Am I doing something wrong? I never used room correction with my UMC-1 because it did not come with a microphone, so I am not familiar with Emotiva's system.

Which direction is that mic facing?

I had a similar problem the first time I applied emoQ and then I saw that my mc700 had activated an option called double bass or something similar and then it sounded awesome. Just in case, take a look at that and turn it off.
Other thing that didn't happen to me but I've heard that sometimes, it doesn't estimate correctly the distance from your listening position to the sub so, check that distance and if needed change it to the correct one.

First, I'll describe the mic so we have the same idea of what we mean by its direction, since as you probably know it is of an unusual design:.
It looks to me like a small circular wedge with a metal dot in the center. The dot faces up and the cable, which is on the side, faces towards the center channel, under which is the pre-amp.

Thank you. I did not notice an option similar to "double bass" nor did I know that I can manually change the distance detected by the mic.

I would move both in 1/3 of the width from the side walls.

I have a set of furniture sliders that are always under each foot of my amps, so easy to move and they are huge! PSA XV15se
slide them all over till you find your spot.

I was surprised to see you post, since my MC-700 is the complete opposite. If I use Emo-Q I get very little bass.  I am running it flat due to this.

For me, it appears to be something that is not adjustable.  I played with the EQ for quite a while and could not recover the bass to the level I have when flat. Then I read the instruction and noticed this note:

Note: While you may adjust the values entered when EmoQ was run, the values displayed do not represent the entire range of corrections introduced by EmoQ. Therefore, while your adjustments will MODIFY the adjustment made by EmoQ, setting all bands back to zero is not equivalent to a totally flat setting in one of the Manual EQ groups.

So I wonder what this setting is and what it is doing. It is clearly setting something in the bass range for me.

I must admit, i'm having a hard time dialing in this puppy too.
I'm currently suffering from too much Bass/Mid-Bass.

I had it great sounding when i ran the Original EmoQ back in firmware 2.8.1. Perfect, balanced mid-bass. Nice and Clean.
Then, when i installed 2.9.0, I re-ran EmoQ (having not copied down the values from 2.8.1) and didn't get a great result.
So i was fooling around with it on Tuesday, getting ready for Firmware release and set it to "flat" and noticed my Sub was 8.0db too hot, prompting me to go over and physically lower the gain knob.
When i have more time, I intend to install 2.9.2 and spend some time tweaking before the Fall movie season starts.
