I have heard them a few times and was never impressed. Now I was impressed by how much sound comes out of such a little speaker but not by the quality of it all. For 9K you can get a pair of Marten Django's which do blow these out in actual sound quality.

More and more are going active amplified speakers. Emotiva is a amplifier company with great active amplified Monitors. There have been hints in post from Emotiva that things may be in the works for active amplified speakers. Active amplified speakers on the market now are high dollar. Think about it. We could have a small DAC/Preamp and a pair of full range towers with amplification for each driver and no crossovers for a Emotiva price. These high prices turn me off no matter how good they sound. It makes sese that all in one active speakers would be the interesting thing. Bu I guess, I haven't seen the moderately priced high performing and most of all [simple] units to capitalize on the mass market appeal. For me, I hear about active speakers and there's something holding me back. Maybe for me, it's the lack of the mix and match thing. Try squeezing my XPA-1's and its class A power in to an active speakers - or a really good tube amp. I have heard them a few times and was never impressed. Now I was impressed by how much sound comes out of such a little speaker but not by the quality of it all. The Stealth 8 and down on the line of Emotiva powered monitors are Active speakers. No passive crossover installed. I recommend them highly. There can be a real performance increase to a properly built speaker with individual amplification and active crossover points for each driver. This can be done outboard or inboard. It's needs to be done properly and has always been at a high price. Not all active speakers nail this properly but Emotiva seems to have the recipe to do it right. I do not understand why amplified active crossover speakers cost so much.
