I recently purchased a single 4s for use as a center channel. Out of the box, it sounded great. Fast forward a couple weeks and when I switched it on, there was a soft electrical "snap" and the low frequency driver pushed out to full excursion and just stayed there. I switched power cords and it did it again. I plugged it into a different power outlet and it did it again; however, this time I accidentally switched it on-off-on in about one second and then it was fine and has been fine for several hours of listening.
Can anybody explain this behavior? The speaker was on it's side when it first happened, and upright when it went away, but it has been on its side for several hours and several power-ups with no problems.

It may not be a major problem, however, you could end up with a serious failure/ amplifier or loudspeaker if run unchecked. First thing I would do is pull that system out of the loop until I knew for sure what's up. Tech support for sure. Bill

Contact Emotiva Support. That isn't normal behavior.
We do sell through a lot of these, and like most high-volume products, every now and then there's a dud.

What were you using as an input to the 4's ? What output source was it using? Where was the volume on the input set at? Master volume as well as individual trim volume (if it's your MC-700)? What interconnect cables? Does the 4 have it's own volume control, early versions like mine do, later versions don't? If it does where was it set at? Cheers Gary

Signal originated from Youtube on Sony XBR65x950b, thru MC-700. Trim was set to factory zero. Interconnects were the three ways one gets with a cable box (red, white, yellow...you know the kind). They don't suck. My 4s does not have its own volume control. It was new from Emotiva just a few weeks ago.
