My Denon AVR-5700 died. For 17 yrs the unit has been plugged in & running daily. For the past 5 yrs it's been in my office playing 2 channel. Started getting noise in the LF, so I opened it up to do a quick diagnosis and I counted no less than 5 electrolytic caps with bulging tops, with one in the LF amp. Electrolytic caps have a life of about 15 yrs. So I gave up on re-wiring it- taking a rear amp & making it the LF. This has been an incredible sounding receiver, oh well...
I posted earlier that I wanted a stereo with networking, zoning, DAC, USB & remote access for our new house, asking for ideas. But found old model surround sound to be a better substitute.
So I bought an unused- new-in-box Integra DTR-50.4 for $400 total. ($1600) It's loaded with features. I may replace the UMC200 with it until XMC-1 gets ordered. I can power zone to my office & use the android app to control it, even keep the 12v trigger from powering up the XPA. cool My mourning only last a day... oh boy, new toy lol

I bought a Denon AVR-886 in 2004, used it daily for years and then gave it to my brother who still uses it today. Sure does seem like Denon made some gear with longevity in mind. You got a great price on the Integra 50.4, as in a steal.

The cure for audio mourning is new gear and a proper burial. You know, for closure.

Hey RoryB, I save everything- I see a Toroidal that needs saving. .And a few 5-way speaker connects. Hey, I'm a diy speaker builder. Then I bury it.

I thought MAYBE I would be in mourning DAY ONE with the XMC1. You would have needed to see the way my delivery guy brought the thing up the driveway to appreciate that.... Luckily, no dropping, no damage....its all good! Bill

I don't think anyone makes AVRs like the 5700 anymore! The good news is with companies like Emotiva you can get even better sound.
