Hello Emotiva community, my first post here, and I'm sad it has to be this one.
I purchased a used UMC-200 just over a year ago to power my 7 channel emotiva amp. It has worked fairly well , with my only gripe being that the center channel would intermittently drop out on Netflix and PS4 games (can't explain that one). Well last night I got home from work, and I jumped on the system to get ready to watch House of Cards where I noticed the system would not handshake with the apple tv. I tried switching back and forth between inputs but nothing would display. When I turned the power off, it would not come back on out of stand-by. I tried pulling the fuse, and leaving it off for 30 minutes, which didn't work. Occasionally when I click the power button (orange halo) it will display garbled text on the display, or just shut off entirely.
I'm praying this is a software issue, but I'm not sure. Is there a way of doing a hard reset of the system? The unti doesn't have that "burnt silcon" smell, so I'm really hoping it didn't fry somehow.
Thanks in advance for you input.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you're looking at a power supply problem (hardware). If you got the warranty transferred into your name when you bought it, then there's a good chance you're still covered. Hello Emotiva community, my first post here, and I'm sad it has to be this one.

Unfortunately no warranty with the unit. Is the power supply swappable or is she cooked you figure?

Your best bet is to contact Emotiva customer support and see what you can work out.....

I pulled the cover off last night, none of the capacitors looked blown, the powersupply looked fine as well. No obvious discoloration on the board, and no weird smells. I plugged it back in, and it went to standby (orange halo), I pushed power, and the led display lit completely filled in (all pixels illuminated) and then it shut off after a few seconds. Not looking good.

Not looking good. Mine was the same way, and it ended up being the power supply as KeithL has already stated. They replaced C18 & C19, if I remember correctly as I no longer have the unit. There is a thread that showed how one owner did this fix himself as his was out of warranty, but I don't remember the member name or thread heading so if you're interested in it you'll have to do some digging unless another member can point you to it. My advise would be to call Emotiva and work out something with them.

I had a response from someone on their team, but when I asked about purchasing internal parts they dropped off the convo. Very disappointing, I think I'm going with Anthem for my next purchase.

So you e-mailed them or you actually picked up the phone and talked with someone? If it was e-mail, I would encourage a phone call.

I love my Anthem MRX 510. No regrets selling my UMC-200. Same issue with mine.
I would give Emotiva another call. They usually will work with you if you give them a chance. Mine was fixed and returned promptly.
Hang in there and keep drinking the blue kool-aid.

I think it must be me lol. I am dealing with a reseller of Anthem in Surrey, and they are doing an awful job of getting back to me on a demo unit they have of the AVM-60. I'm really at a cross roads, I could fix the UMC, I could maybe change direction and pickup the MC700 as I currently have a 7.1 setup without major thoughts of needing Atmos, or keep hammering on this Anthem, as buying Emotiva is very expensive for Canadians, and the used market is pretty baron up here.

So to update, Someone from Emotiva reached out, asking about the previous owner. I don't have the owners details as the unit was purchased on Ebay, so I asked how much it would be to service. I have paid $400 for the UMC, and I'm trying to weigh out costs of either repairing or upgrading. The UMC is a good match to my UPA-7, but I was experiencing the audio drop-out issue on my center channel which was aggravating.

With all the power supply failures on these units, it's too bad they couldn't do more. Seems like an awefully high rate of failure on those parts, but what do I know.

I just heard back from them again, its $100 USD just to look at it, plus shipping (both ways I presume). So by the time you convert that to CAD funds I'm around $200 already, that's half of what I paid, just to find out what I already know, its fubared.. Going to cut my losses on this one, too bad.

Note: We now have a company who does repairs for us (including out-of-warranty repairs) in Canada (in Calgary). The fees would be the same, but the shipping would be a lot less, so that might be worth considering. (They might even be local to you.) If you want to explore that option, you would still call in to us here for an RMA number..... Alternately, those two capacitors (described in the thread) are a good bet for power supply problems. If you feel up to it, or you have a decent local repair guy, you could try changing them or having them changed. However, if you do, it is IMPORTANT to use LOW ESR capacitors of the proper voltages and reating. Ok, so a friend of mines wife works on circuitry and she says she can change out the capacitors. Is there a parts list or link to where I can get replacement hardware, and a list of things that should be replaced? Thanks in advance!

I just did a little digging for you about the thread I mentioned earlier, link below. Also the picture below (thanks to taxman2 ) is from that same thread so read through that thread, especially page 2. You also should heed KeithL's advise above when he says, "It is IMPORTANT to use LOW ESR capacitors of the proper voltages and rating." emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/41827/umc-infinitive-loading-after-powerHopefully this image helps.

I had the same problem which I corrected in about 15 minutes with new Nichicon caps to replace c18 & c19 (330 and 1000uf but 25 volt instead of 16). Seems to be working fine. Big Thank You to the forum.
