One of the magnetic planar midranges on my Strata Mini's started crackling. They were working fine before i went on a two week vacation and when I got back started having issues. Might have been an over zealous house sitter. I pulled the back panel off the speaker and checked the connections to the panel and it was secure. It would seem that the panel needs replacing. Anyone know where I may be able to find a replacement panel or get my existing panel repaired? Checked ebay but did not see anything. I know AV123 is no longer in business but wondering if anyone might have bought up the inventory of parts or perhaps these drivers could be sourced elsewhere? Any suggestions/help is much appreciated!
Thanks, Kevin.

I'm glad you found another source for replacements. The AV123 Strata Mini is a speaker whose design I admire. I recall that on some of the AV123 speaker designs, Danny Ritchie was the designer, so it makes sense that GR Research might be a source.
A little more background:
The midrange driver in the Strata Mini was made by Level 9 Sound Design, and at the time was sold in the Monsoon multimedia speakers and was also being used by VMPS. Sadly they are no longer being made, as there are no equivalent units sold by other companies, with the closest cousin being the Bohlender & Graebener Neo 10.
They have a unique corrugated diaphragm that allows for large travel, enabling the driver to play down quite low. I have only seen this corrugated diaphragm design used one other place, in a midrange driver used by Eminent Technology for their LFT-16 speaker, also sold individually as the LFT-10. Unfortunately the Eminent Technology planar driver has quite narrow dispersion due to its width.

back a LONG time ago (35+ years) I had housemates and all the hangers on that went with that 'scene'. When I left for a couple day holiday (backpacking?) I pulled the pre out / main in jumpers and stuck 'em in my pocket. At least I still had a stereo when I got home. And it worked. www.eminent-tech.com/lft10/carspeaker.htmlLink to LFT-10 driver. They are clear about loudness limits. For home use? A bank of 'em 6 tall would be a neat start of a line-source. Wired series / parallel to yield 9 ohms, pretty close to straight resistive. That'll change with crossover or use a line level and connect speaker directly to amp. Add a Magnepan MidBass driver per side and a couple good subs.
