I am getting into vinyl, All I had so far was a very modest automatic Audio Technica TT, but I would like to get a new TT with decent sound, that I can upgrade later and that is not automatic. I will be using it with my Yamaha A-S2100 integrated, which has a Phono input.
I am not looking into transferring anything to my computer, or digitalizing any vinyl record. All I am hoping for is a good sound that I can enjoy on my La Scala's II.
My budget is up to 500 dollars, that would be my entry into the Vinyl. Any advise on what should consider buying would be very appreciated

First thing you might want to do is figure out whether you want an automatic TT or a manual. I like my auto Marantz tt. It works great and sounds pretty decent. I'll probably never upgrade the cartridge as long as it keeps working - sounds fine to me. YMMV. A good place to learn about what is out there for tt's is this website: www.recordplayerreviews.com/There are other websites that review tt's too - this is just one of them.

What sort of budget are you working with? I have been using vinyl for 40 yrs and replaced my top of the line pioneer TT with a music hall MMF7.1 with Ortofon cartridge. I can say that a lot has been accomplished with the use of modern materials and new cartridge tech. There is a lot of equipment to choose from so the choice can be difficult. Project also makes some very affordable tables with carbon fibre arms that are worth looking at. I spend some time over at Vinylengine.com lots of super knowledgeable people over there as well as here.

Buy whatever Rega you can afford. Or a u-turn audio.

Ty, I'll check it out. The current TT sounds like a 99 dollars plastic TT providing signal to a $$$$ equipment.

I bought mine because of the recommendation of a freind on another forum. I spent a lot of time finding the right deal that i could afford and i am glad i did. I use a project tube box with mine and it sounds fantastic. I paid over a grand 40 yrs ago for my pioneer pll600 TT and it cant hold a candle to this machine.

Best advice I could give you. Spend some money on cleaning and maintenance of your vinyl. Everyone is wrapped up about table to buy, and no talks about cleaning, and maintaining your vinyl. You don't need to spend allot on either to get it done. But maintain and clean your vinyl to have it sound its best. Don't buy into the hype of an expensive table either. Any Music Hall, or Regal, or even that Audio Technica will be fine starting out. Many have built in phono Preamplifiers built in, or you can get an XPS-1 for instance. Just be sure your table is properly setup, and you have a cleaning system in place, and enjoy.

Good point for sure, sometimes i assume people do this naturally not recognizing that not everyone is a 55yr old vinyl head. I used 2 different methods for cleaning all my albums. For general cleaning since i dont have a lot of money i made and adapter to wash and vacuum them with my little green machine and a homemade solution which i found over at vinyl engine. For really dirty records i use the white glue method and it works a treat, but very time consuming.

Hi Socketman I hear you. I think a systems approach is best for vinyl play. Not just the turntable alone. If what you use works great. Awesome. I just want others to get the most for their investment too, and vinyl can get expensive fast if you let it.

Thank y'all for the input and advise, I truly appreciate it.
I have ordered, after, much debate the following Turntable:
Pro-Ject - Debut Carbon Esprit SB (Black). I will be hooking it up to a Yamaha A-S2100 integrated, powering a pair of La Scalla's II. I Will post impressions later.

Sounds like a good choice , let us know how you like it compared to your previous kit and also be sure to get a good anti static brush and look into cleaning your albums if you own older ones.
