Hello,
I am thinking of adding a power amp for my home theater setup (only for L/R channels). My setup comprises of a pair of Elac B6 as L/R channels with Elac C5 as center channel, wharfedale diamond 10.SR as the surrounds and Paradigm PDR 10 sub. Currently powered with the Marantz NR 1403 receiver (just 50 wpc - 2ch dr). Will either of the BasX A-150 or BasX A-300 make a considerable difference? Any other recommendation on a power amp?

Im a MONOBLOCKS kind of guy! If it's within your budget thats what I would do,,,,,oh, wait ,,,,,I did that. In all honesty anythin with more umph/clean watts will be an improvement for two channel listening.
Ultimately we would need a budget amount but these amps will help, wait a second, youve only stated one amp twice. LOL We all do that kind of stuff all the time! 😁 You'll fit in just right around here.
Welcome aboard!

I've had the ELAC B6 for about 18 months. They sound great with a Pioneer Elite AVR and a little better with a UMC-200 & Parasound Halo amplifier.
When I heard the B6 at an audio show the designer and company rep told us 40 watts/channel is plenty. These speakers are very flexible in that they were designed to sound great with fairly mass market electronics so I would enjoy with it the Marantz for a while.

Thank you for your warm welcome. I just updated the amps to A150 and A300 ( ). I am a little low on the budget and that is why I am wondering if it would make any difference with these budget amps or should I continue using my Marantz.

I doubt you would hear any major sound differences. What you will most likely notice is a little more of a fuller sound especially during tougher passages of music. You may also hear a few things that you didn't hear before. I started in separates the same way. Either of the amps would do fine. Remember Emotivas gracious return policy if you don't like the upgrade.

They punch above their price point, don't let that fool you. I think you will like what they bring to the party. If not you have 30 days to return them, I doubt you will. Gotta run, once again, welcome!

I have some Elac F5s on a second system with only 50 watts. Room is small. Sound is excellent. I took my McIntosh amp (250 watts) briefly from my main system and holy sh** they do like power and sound better. My original plan was to have a budget system but I plan to break that rule--I am planning on a BasX A 300 (still budget)
Get the BasX A300--$399 BARGAIN ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having heard both of these - the real bargain is a XPA-200 used. Now that's something that's a heck of an amp! You could easily get it for the price of a basx a-300.

I prefer keeping modest volume (75-80dB).

I have owned both, the Marantz nr1504 is a great little receiver. The ELAC's you have are not the most efficient speakers, 86db at one watt I believe. I noticed that the movies were not that different with the XPA-200 running just the fronts. With the Marantz handling the center and surround channels. However I heard some improvement in Sound Quality on 2.1 channel stereo at moderate levels that you listen at. At higher listening levels you will hear a definite difference. I would look at a used XPA-200, or UPA-200 if you want used. The UPA-200 can be had for a decent price used. IF you want new, get the basx a-300. Welcome to the Lounge !

The reason I reccomended the XPA-200 is this: XPA-200 inside: No fan, hefty heatsinks. 80,000 mf capacitance, XLR inputs, more expensive binding posts. Two XPA-5 amp blades. One per channel. A-300 inside: Fan, less capacitance, RCA inputs, cheaper binding posts. One amp blade.

I would personally get the UPA-500 for sale here somewhere. It did beat my Pioneer AVR rated at 110 wpc.

Good advice above. Might be worth checking Emotiva for b-stock or used of some of the options recommended.

Thank you all for sharing your views. Will look for a used XPA-200 or a UPA 500.

Thank you all for sharing your views. Will look for a used XPA-200 or a UPA 500. The Marantz NR1504 has only two preamp outs for the front speakers. If you buy a UPA 500 you will have to upgrade the Marantz receiver because of this. In that case you can buy a used UMC - 200 or another processor. The XPA-200 will work with your current set up. Hope this helps. Matt

Hope this helps. Matt Since you are only concerned with upgrading your amp power for the front two channels, which you are changing to the Elac F6, the BasX A-300 would be suitable and would not require upgrading your receiver, same as the XPA-200. The UPA 500 is the predecessor to the BasX A-500, and the BasX A-500 has upgraded amplifier circuitry based upon the XPA-5 Gen2 schematic and using the improved ON Semiconductor output transistors. Also, I see a number of uninformed comments about the fans in the BasX A-300, both in this thread and elsewhere. The fans in that amplifier are there as a "safety"* measure to prevent thermal shutdown when the amp is fed a full scale sine wave and delivering its maximum output, and even then they are only needed after the amp has run in that condition for some time. (*Not that there's any danger to you or your gear, just to prevent any interruption in performance from thermal shutdown.) With music, the fans should never run, and I have never seen them run. They are the same fan that is used on the heatsink in the A-100, and while I have managed to induce that fan to run (by playing bass-heavy music at full party DJ levels for about an hour through Airmotiv T1 speakers) it was inaudible while running. So the chances that your listening experience will be disturbed by fan noise with the A-300 are nil, unless you're driving a vibration-laboratory shaker table with it.
