Hi Emotiva
Some of the latest titles on Netflix such as House of Cards and Ozark support Dolby Digital 5.1 and the Chromecast 2 plays this as default through the Netflix App. However this doesn't work on my Emotiva UMC-1 and I get no audio. Every time I try to play a title I need to go into the Netflix App and select the "Stereo" audio track.
Is there a better way of dealing with this? Why is the UMC-1 telling the Chromecast 2 to play Dolby 5.1 if it cannot support it? My setup is simple 2.0 stereo. SHouldn't the UMC-1 resample to stereo?
Would be good if I could configure the UMC-1 or Chromecast to only try to play 2.0 stereo.
Just to confirm, I believe it's "DD+ 5.1" that Netflix is trying to play.
Thanks!

It's been a long time since I set up a UMC-1, but IIRC - you can customize the inputs to only use certain playback modes. Look through the manual for how to configure inputs.

Thank you, but I can't see where in this menu I need to configure this? This screen and config on page 34 configures my input label to video of HDMI3 and audio of HDMI3 (great if my audio was coming from a difference source) but I can't see anything in there on how to tell the UMC-1 to tell the parent device it doesn't support DD+? Am I missing something?

Am I missing something? You don't actually tell the UMC-1 that your source doesn't support a particular decoding. You simply tell the UMC-1 that if it receives certain types of inputs, that the UMC-1 should map them to what you want to be played. (Also, in the speaker setup, you can tell the UMC-1 that you do not have certain speakers. If I recall correctly, the default is that it thinks you have all the speakers. And, if you set certain ones to "none" or whatever it is like that...it won't try to pay them.) Make sense? Mark

Oh ok, that makes sense. So the UMC-1 takes any input and converts it to my setup-got it.
However I am just wondering in my instance when my player tries to send Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 (DDP5.1) the UMC-1 shows "NO AUDIO". Does the UMC-1 support DDP5.1?

Totally get it, but when I try to play Dolby Digital 5.1 from Netflix, the UMC-1 shows "NO AUDIO" which tells me it can't decide. I understand what you're saying about receiving the signal then re sampling it to two available stereo speakers. Even after a year Google isn't helping me. For the life of me, I can't stop the UMC-1 from telling the Chromecast that it doesn't support Dolby Digital 5.1 even though when it receives the bitstream it can't play the audio. Cheers

I had/have this same problem with my UMC-1 and a Roku. Sent the Roku back for a 4k fire stick -- works a lot better. DD+ 5.1 plays most of the time from most apps. DD+ 2.0 usually results in silence, unfortunately (although the UMC-1 identifies it as such). Sometimes when getting no audio if I restart the system and then let it play for a while the UMC-1 suddenly starts working again...

Cheers Have you ever tried calling Emotiva to get their help on this? It's been so long since I had the UMC-1 that I no longer have the manual, and the link I shared last year no longer works (I think they put their old manuals somewhere else but I can't find it). That said, I do recall there was a place in the menu where you could map any incoming signal to the output type you desire. And, if you want, the UMC-1 can indeed plan Dolby 5.1 When I had a UMC-1, I did this all the time and never found a situation in which it didn't work. I never used Chromecast with it, but I did use DirecTV cable, a Denon DVD player, a BluRay player, and an Emotiva CD player as inputs...among others. Mark

ozohnoesThe only other thing I can think of on the "no audio" is to check to make sure that you have both a video and an audio input defined in the UMC-1 for the device that is playing Netflix. In the UMC-1, you can separately define which audio and video puts are used for a given setup configuration. If you don't have the audio input defined or the UMC-1 is looking to something other than where the device playing netflix is plugged into the UMC-1, that could show "no audio". Mark

ozohnoesI see you found the manual from your post on another thread. Hopefully that helps you sort this out. If I were in your shoes, I would do the following: 1) Note which physical input the Chromecast 2 is plugged into...I presume that it's one of your HDMI in's...#1-#5. 2) Confirm that the input you are choosing when you want to watch/listen to Chromecast is mapped to that input for both audio and video. The instructions for this start on page 28. To do step 2, make sure you know what shows up on your UMC's screen as the input name when you select that input to play your Chromecast, then: 3) Go into "menu, setup, input setup" and scroll/move down to that input name (since it is linked to your Chromecast) - per page 31. 4) per page 32, move to the right and select "audio". Look to the list that pops up to the right of that (per page 32). If it does not match the physical input you have from step #1, change it to match. Make sure you have your UMC-1's speaker setup done correctly: 5) Go into "menu, setup, speaker setup" 6) Select your fronts and make sure they are set to "full" 7) If you select the others, you should be able to choose a setting that says there are no other speakers...I think you have to do this 1-by-1. Then you can map all the incoming streams to Stereo just to make sure all is well. Do this under "menu, setup, advanced playback" per page 34. As I recall, you have to select each incoming option it shows and map it to "stereo". Between steps 5-7 and this step, this will ensure that no matter what, the UMC-1 will only try to play in stereo. And, if I recall correctly, if you do steps 5-7, you might not even need to do this last step. But, I strongly suspect that something is wrong in steps #1-4 with your system. It's been a long time since I had a UMC-1, but I had a couple similar situations. If it's not that, it's some sort of HDMI handshake issue. Mark

Just a quick update for my friends who stumble upon this from the internet. The big item of note here is the Chromecast 2 was showing "NO AUDIO" when Netflix tries to play DD 5.1. My guess was that there was a bitstreaming issue between the CC2 and the UMC-1. I tried my luck and flashed the current latest firmware. ISSUE FIXED! Yay! When playing DD 5.1 through CC2 and Netflix "Dolby Digital 5.1" shows and everythink works. Latest firmware for UMC-1 here: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/53403/latest-release-umc-firmware-19I was on 17.04.07 and this latest firmware was 17.04.19. Fixed a couple other small bugs as well.
