I was listening this morning to a DVD concert in DTS 5.1. My speaker setup is 7.1 and Preset is Dirac. When DTS 5.1 is selected I get sound out of the 7 speakers no matter the sound MODE (Auto, Surround, Direct, Stereo and All Stereo are the only options I can see). Even with Direct selected I get sound out of the Surround Back speakers. If I select Dolby Digital 5.1 instead of DTS 5.1 then I get all the sound Modes and when Direct is selected I get sound only from 5 speakers. So my question is, is this normal with DTS 5.1 content in a 7.1 speaker setup?

It does the same with Avatar Blu Ray DTS-MA 5.1. I get sound from the 7 speakers even in Direct mode. It shows as inout signal DTS-MA 5.1 but for some reason upsample it to 7.1 no matter the Sound mode. With Dolby Digital works fine.

Just got on the phone with Emotiva tech support and looks like it's a new bug after the last firmware update. They already reported it to tech dept. Also, my unit is not showing the firmware version which is another bug already reported for many and they said they are working on this to fix it in the next firmware update.

Updated the Firmware with USB and now it's showing the firmware version but the DTS 5.1 bug still present.

I thought MAYBE with your 7.1 configuration the audio for the surrounds was matrixed to both pair, being it's a 5.1 dts track. I have only 5.1, so I can't play with it here.
Don't have the display glitch with 4.1.
By the way that Growing up live is a great show. ( I have that same disc.) The opening and end tracks are my favorites, with plenty of goodies in between. In your eyes...great version. Are your Oppo audio output settings on "auto"?

After flashed the unit the firmware display bug is gone.

You did the best possible thing by getting with technical support, as it appears they have identified this glitch.
I did the same (came up with 2 firmware issues since 2015) and both were corrected over time.

Surround, Dolby EX, Dolby PLIIx Movie, Dolby PLIIx Music, DTS ES Matrix, Direct, Stereo, All Stereo and AUTO

I checked the same DTS 5.1 DVDs in my Marantz NR1606 and it behaves the same way as the XMC-1 so looks like it's not a bug and more like the way DTS process 5.1 input signals in 7.1 speakers setups.

All Stereo mode is the only mode I use with surround and music. Dolby music or DTS music puts too much in one place for me. Two channel stereo is my preferred method for music. I know surround music in movie disk sounds cool when you are in the sweet spot but I do not get into it the same when I move out of the surround sound center of it. I guess you have to just take your pick and how your speakers are set up in your room. Never really wanted to sit in one surround sound spot to listen to music.

Yes I'm getting sound from all 7 speakers in both Surround & Direct. I would agree, I too don't believe this to be a bug in the XMC-1 firmware.

It would sure be great to get an answer from someone who knows on this one. I too was under the impression DTS 5.1 was upconverted to 7.1, and it used to be. But now it is not. Anybody know if we need a firmware change on this? God Bless, Wayne

The way DTS Surround 5.1 and DTS-MA 5.1 is behaving in my two systems (XMC-1 and Marantz SR1606) is that it's sending the Surround speakers signal to the Surround Back speakers. I got an email this morning from Emotiva customer support and here is it: Hi Enrico, Thank you so much for the awareness of playing back speakers when in "Direct" mode is set and a DTS 5.1 track was being played. We did get confirmation from our Programming Engineer this morning, that this is a spec. from DTS, that we are to copy surround speakers into the backs even in "Direct" (no processing) mode is selected. Sorry, this is an update applied to the latest firmware to comply with DTS specs. Thank you, Damon Steele Product Specialist Emotiva Audio Corporation 615.790.6754 www.emotiva.com
