I use a JL Audio sub in my theater. Looking for a under $1000 sub for my 2 channnel room.
I want a 12" non ported model. Piano finish black. guess that knocks out Emotiva.
Suggestions for audio only. SVS what else & why?

Are you suggesting trading 20-25% of the sub be spent on looks vs performance? Piano blck finish doesn't come without a cost. Id add to the budget or be more focused on performance, but thats just me. 😁

I picked up an SVS SB12 when they were on closeout after the first of the year for $400. Other than it's black ash finish I think you'd like it, it is a sealed design. It has very detailed bass. Every bit as good as the two DIY 12" sealed subs I've had for 4-5 years now. While the SB12 can't play as low or as loud as the 15" A5-350 Elemental Design sub I've had almost forever, it has much more 'grain' to the sound. The ED sub shakes the house, but with the SB12 I can hear the delicate low notes from a cello that the ED can't reproduce with nearly the same detail.
Don't discount ported subs. Some of them are every bit as good as any sealed sub.

If I didn't already have my SVS subs, I would easily be going with Power Sound Audio. However they don't have anything smaller than a 15in sealed.

Power sound audio! I have a Power sound audio Triax sub with three 15" drivers on it with a 8000 watt amp built into it. End game sub, only one needed! Though not in your price range they have several that will knock your socks off!

I have a pair of Klipsch 308's that I was using for stereo untill I received my PSA subs, I use only one for this purpose.
The Klipsch are a cubic foot and have a single 8" active and a pair of 8" passive woffers in them. Im pretty sure they have 350 watt plate amps and are Piano Black. Ive really enjoyed them but at this time no real use for them. I know if I sell them Ill find a use and hate myself! LOL
I still have the boxes as well. 😁 Love these subs, not for a huge room though.

Rythmik F12 Signature Edition: www.rythmikaudio.com/F12SE.htmljust a tiny bit over a grand in piano black finish. 5-yr warranty, servo technology, claimed FR down to 14Hz @-3dB, lots of built-in controls. I have a L12, its poorer brother, and VERY happy with it. EDIT: also with free shipping, 30-day trial and choice of plate amp with or without HPF output (same price) depending on whether or not your stereo amp can do bass management. No relation with Rythmik, just a very happy customer 😁

Just my nickel, inflation you know. Piano Black is pretty, but dust and finger print magnet a plenty. I have an SVS SB-13 Ultra in the Piano Black. I love, but you got to keep it pretty. I use quick detailer on it. Makes it shiny nice.

I know bery well as my Paradigm Studio 100's in a Rosenut finish added to the expense of the speaker. What Nick is getting at is that piano black finish costs say $200 more than vinyl wrapped. As a result if you are comparing $1,000 subs, one in vinyl and one in piano black, then the vinyl one is a $990 sub with $10 worth of vinyl wrap, whilst the piano black one is a $800 sub with $200 of piano black finish. If you wanted equal sound then you would have to spend $1200 (just an example number, don't panic) on the same sub in piano black. For a real world example, in Australia a Paradigm Prestige 15" 2000 watt sub woofer costs $500 more in piano black. Cheers Gary

SVS what else & why? Major players like HSU SVS and Velodyne are equally competent for low frequency production, be it film or music. It's a mistake, IMHO to distinguish between the two, that would be an integration problem, rather than a sound quality issue. That's oversimplification of course since there are many considerations involved in the process. Bill

The subs are used in LFE (movies) and normal mode (music) at the same time (Emotiva XMC-1 XLR sub outs and RCA stereo outs).

Good Evening Gents I am looking to purchase a new sub for my basement.i am looking at sealed subs due to their footprint . Just looking for some advice between these two PSA S1500 or SVS SB2000 Any insight to either would be appreciated. I am in the Toronto area so sending back the SVS is local where as the PSA would be a different story. Thanks
