5175 review,first impressions,quality, care
first off before even placing line in's powered on connected to 5.2 channels a hum like bad ballast or street light power hum was evident in all Chanel's (I believe it is the input side inside the unit with the fault now my replacement is fine and no hum) after trying different plugs on different breakers and cords with and without ground pins and still until my replacement arrived
in the mean time waiting for the replacement. I continue setting up the mc 700 and oppo 203 for future use and a rear channel is not working, buzz now in one channel ? I think at first mc? then again tru process of elimination a bad emotiva rca cable was found the culprit I replaced it and get ready to swap the amps after mail is here
So while listening to the hummer until arrival anticipation is killing me I gotta try this out well it does have great imaging and definition my Polk rti8 now have the power they needed and the Martin Logan's lx16i in the back with a Polk csi4 is very able I have not run emoQ yet still doing wire tucks again but I can say there is a boat load of head room and I am happy about that, I watched pirates of the carabien Bly ray on the oppo and was very impressed how the sound filled the staging
needs some work but wow quite powerfuland video too but one major issue for me was both Amps have poor right side cover folds not flush on the sides and I seen the first 5157 had it during the amp swap and noticed the sides don't line up as the inside was bent out making the side of the cover deformed and not lign up
after swapping the amps out I then notice my replacement has the very same bend in the very same spot not quite as bad but not straight by means of square almost like it was hit with a hammer from the inside of the cover coming the outside side of the cover and only on the right side and is a bit of an eye sore from the side
recap issues
A5175
1. hummers exists to my belif and findings so check as you plugstuff in one at time it can save some time later maybe
2. bad rca exist so wouldn't hurt to get an extra this was a .5 m emotiva buzzzz
3. dents in covers they are there how many I dunno but two for sure (no shipping or outside of unit ding could have made this its convex out ward and the units cover were never opened again I feel it's the way is was bent in the shop or during installation)
Mc 700
4. the horrendous display I cant see it at 7 feet and I have 20/20 vision this is big for me if I would have known I would have chose else, as an audiophile rooted from car audio in the 90s I am not Richard Simmons but I feel like it already pre set up trying to see what is going on. Ya I know you can use the menu on the tv but this interrupts audio for potential changes and is not convenant for general use
The good
1. The responses times and administration by Walter was spot on he assessed my issues and had a replacement sent asap as Richard from Quebec aquistque was kind enough to share his stock to keep me from waiting for the next lot to be made
2. The 5175 and mc 700 sound very good at both movies and Stevie ray Vaughan and alike
3. Mc700 seems to have just the right amount of bells
4. 5175 has a good amount of headroom clarity imaging and staging seems nice and specific when told yet invisible to the eye on demand
Recap
as my first emotiva purchase I am barely content with the units and only content as I cannot see the mc 700 for the life of me (display)and the 5175 may have #1,2,3 issues found from the company left me feeling a little weak on the build as in QC never mind the unplanned amp swap and troubleshooting
i find myself anR and D guy for my service providers but hey you can't fix what's not broken or told and compliance is found short these days
I will report back after I get some use in squinting for the display and rocking the house
