Actually, that was the plan to use the additional 2 channel for my patio (Z2) or buy another set of speakers for L/R surround rather than the in ceilings I am currently using. If you don't care about ATMOS and need Z2 analog outs, then get the XMC-1 Gen 2 which now comes with V3 HDMI Board upgrade from factory. It will ship after May 1st, though. This is what I was thinking also, maybe the G3 (just like the new stuff). Saw the receiver, not sure if that fits my needs since I just purchased the 9 channel amp, the receiver with have balanced outs for a 3 channel the speaker connections for the rest if I remember correctly.

The reciever has a switch where you can use external amps instead of internal. Ive found this useful when I had a multichannel amp go down and just used the internal amps till I replaced the amp. Never missed a beat or movie! š

Just purchased a set of Klipsch R15MBK speakers at ABT for a great price and plan to use them for proper L/R surround channels, and use the ceiling speakers as height for atoms.

Ok so you have a 9 channel amp and you want Atmos and 4K hdmi Iām assuming. I would say wait for the XMC-1 when Atmos comes out, but honestly that may be 6 months plus which is a long wait when you have all the rest of your gear. If you are looking at HT and you like your Denon then look at the Marantz models on accessories4less.com. The Marantz 7703 at $1199 is a good value that will do everything that you need.

So, getting back to the conversation. Lets talk Pre/Pro. I would like to wait for Emotiva to come out with the ATMOS setup. Im also looking at putting another 2 in ceiling speakers to compliment a 7.2.4 setup. now the only thing is the PRE/PRO. I dont want to purchase one that I would have to upgrade 2-3 yrs down the line. I use Z2 streaming to patio, I use 3 outputs to additional TVs in basement bar, eating area, main viewing. I dont have 4k, I think 1080p is great for now. Mainly, the system is used for movies and gaming. Thinking of doing 2 channel stereo too. Also, have acoustic treatments from GIK.
Options please from the GURUs, thanks in advance.

For Zone two, just get a cheap streaming device. These are the ones I use with my 4 zones around the house and a multi channel amp: www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-wfa02-multi-room-wi-fi-audio-adapter-for-ios-android--300-576

I never realized, not being in th market, that th XMC-1 was 2500$, give or take.
At that price point, you've got competition from Anthem, maybe Rotel or NAD as well as many others.
They would all appear to be 'premium' pieces of value with forward looking features.

Yes totally true about Integra/Onkyo. Be careful and be wary. Their HDMI boards and NIC boards are suspect for their quality. Have first hand experience. I normally do not speak up unless it is something that punches up on the radar, but here it is. The defect rate was unacceptable to us where even though we were a dealer, we would sell something else because we were not going to take a chance on a failure. I am not telling anyone what to do, other than be aware of what might occur. If you get one it might do just fine. Or...

Well I think it is between the Pioneer/Yamaha. I don't need preouts as I don't plan on adding an amp. My room is small and I don't need the power I used to. Right now kind of deciding between the Pioneer 302 and Yamaha 770/860(don't the preouts) but does have the YPAO multipoint. No preouts? Automatically to the bottom of the food chain. Please don't forget that while you may not actually need 'more' watts, you'd probably be well served by BETTER.
