It depends on which HiFi Berry card you use. I used the dig+ because I'm feeding the digital signal to my Denon (or Emotiva).

A Raspberry Pi endpoint is my next project.
I currently have a Mac Mini running Roon server (connected to a DAC in my main system) and running Roon as a remote on a desk computer connected to another DAC plus using an Apple TV 4 as an endpoint in another room which will be replaced by the Pi solution.

Well, this discussion finally got me to cut over to Roon. No need for a Raspberry Pi3 solution yet since my DMC-1 only takes Optical/Coax S/PIDF in and the Roon Server knows how to talk to a Squeeze Client (my old Squeeze Touch).
So far, the big loss seems to be a complete lack of a web interface ... My iPhone is fine but not really large enough to display all of that content. Maybe I'll buy an iPad Mini ...

Just load the Roon client on any PC or Mac on your network.

Does anyone have a link to a few kits or recommended parts to build a Pi for roon? Similar to the parts that were posted a few posts back.
I think I'm going to dive into this thing.

Got it. Thanks. I am going to follow this parts list explicitly. So what is the exact link I should use to load roon onto the micro SD card?

Casey I'm just saying this in case you're interested, but I also use the Squeezebox Touch as one of my endpoints, and one way I really brought it to life was to replace the stock power supply with a more powerful linear power supply... The improvement wasn't subtle... It is really amazing what a linear power supply can do for a network player, such as the squeezebox touch or a microrendu... Again, I am saying this in case you're interested, and you're not using one already... As for the web interface, you can install one on practically any pc, mac, tablet, or phone, as DYohn has mentioned.

you dont load roon onto the pi you need an OS like ropieee or dietpi that can support roon bridge...and you need a PC/MAC/NUC to run the roon core or ROCK in the case of NUC kb.roonlabs.com/Getting_Started

@sahman is absolutely right. Squeezebox is a great solution. And keep in mind the Oppo UDP-203 (or 205). If you need a good 4k player, it is also a Roon endpoint.
Take a little time and look at all your options. The Raspberry Pi is an inexpensive option, but there are also a lot others available.
In fact, I'd download Roon to a PC, let it work, and try it out using a simple Toslink/USB output first. My Windows 10 PC connected to my XMC-1 via USB works very well.

The only down side of the Opposite UDP-203 is that it can't output music data over USB. I'm planning on buying the RMC-1 when it comes out and I want to use its DACs, not those on the Oppo.
So I'm stuck needing a solution of either 1Gb/s Ethernet-to-USB or directly feeding Ethernet into the RMC-1. And, as we've discovered, the Raspberry Pi3 + RoPieee is good enough at ~$100 total cost (RPi3, Case, SD Card, Power Supply). And while I'd be willing to pay probably $300 more for an integrated RMC-1 solution, I probably wouldn't be willing to pay $1,000. So it's hard to see how Emotiva could create a Streaming Media Solution within those price constraints. (sigh)
I guess I'll have to look at that at some point. But for now Roon Server -> 1Gb/s Ethernet -> Sqeezebox Touch -> Optical S/PIDF -> DMC-1 works well enough.

Possibly answering my own question. There appears to be some sort of Browser Extension ... or maybe it's a Server Extension. It's really hard to tell ... Casey
