Here is the setup in my current home. It's in a about 20' wide x 14' deep family room with a 12' ceiling:
Pre: XMC-1 - Gen 1
Amps: XPA-2 Gen 2 & XPA-3 Gen 2
Speakers: Polk LSi15s, LSiC & LSiFX
Sub: Velodyne SPL 1200
Table: Pro-Ject RM 1.3 turntable (Acrylic Platter & Ortofon 2M Blue Cartridge, Pro-Ject Speedbox S, Little Bear T-10 Pro tube preamp)
We use the system for about 50% vinyl in 2.1 and about 40% HT and 10% video games for the kids in 5.1. I had planed on upgrading the speakers shortly after getting the new Emotiva pre & amps but have not found anything that sounds as sweet as the LSi15s. I had them on a old Pioneer Elite and had no idea how good they were until I ran them on the Emotiva. It's funny to see guest come over who have never heard a half decent system.
We are building a new home and will now need two systems. The family room is about 20'x20' with a 18' ceiling and behind the listener is a open kitchen with 10" ceilings and will have a 70" tv. The basement is about 25' wide and about 35' deep with only 8' ceilings and have a 80" tv. There is a bar in the back of the room, included in the 35' depth.
I anticipate the family room will have better acoustics and will be used more for music. The basement will likely be more for HT but I am concerned about how the 8' ceilings will sound.
Here are two options I am considering, but am looking for advice beyond these ideas:
Option 1 - Keep my current setup the same for the living room and build a budget all Emotiva HT system for the basement to include:
Processor: MC-700
Amp: A-5175
Speakers: Airmotiv T2, Airmotiv C2 & Airmotiv E2
Sub: Airmotiv S12
Option 2- Move my current speakers to the basement and upgrade to Polk LSiM705, LSiM704c & LSiM702F/X
Get the same MC-700, A-5175 & S12 sub
The LSiM705s have gotten good reviews from past LSi15s owners. I drove two hours to audition a pair but they where on a garbage system and sounded like . . . garbage. I also like the big magnepans but the mid-low sounds a bit thin to me. I have never heard the Emotiva speakers.
With the long basement, should I move to a 7.1 system or the new atmos or DTS:X? It's new construction so wiring is not a problem. The bar in the back will sit 8 and has a good view of the TV. For the living room I mostly care about 2.1. If I go with option one, would the Airmotiv E2 be the best choice as they are going to be mounted far behind the couch over the bar. Would the B1 be a better choice?
Budget is not a big issue but I don't want to waste cash on an upgrade the will end up in a unbalanced system. I also don't need two primary set-ups.
Thank you in advance for any advice.
