My UMC-200 has given me no problems for over 6 years, it just works, painlessly, and sounds great at the same time. Of course I know it's limitations so I don't ask or expect it to do things outside its design parameters. But it's 4K time, I've been puting up with a gradually increasing number of 4K inputs over the last 6 months and I've run out of patience. Quite soon it will be Atmos/DTSX time and that introduces a whole new game of pain. Cheers Gary Outlaw Audio is now releasing their 976 pre/pro. It does all of the things you are looking for...now!

Yep, and there's a preorder link over on AVS Forum. It won't do Atmos (but there is another Outlaw processor to soon follow that will) and only 4 of the 6 HDMI inputs are 4K UHD capable, but all 4 of those inputs are fully compliant (HDMI 2.0b/HDCP 2.2) and will pass all current HDR formats including Dolby Vision. No on-board Automatic Room Correction, but it does have a 10 band PEQ on all channels and they have worked with REW (in advance) to get the 976 into their database. So, room correction via REW should be fairly straightforward. Before moving over to Emotiva, I was an Outlaw fan. I owned their 990, 755, ICBM (a classic) and their RR2150 (which I still own). I know they've had their problems launching their own processors, but I'm pulling for them on this one. Competition is a good thing...

The field is much narrower for me here in Australia. At around double the US price, Outlaw is not on my radar and never will be while they have the current poor distributor service record and pricing structure. Yamaha AVR's have Sabre DAC's so they're unlikely to ever sound "right" to me. Onkyo or Marantz are the choices and I've pretty much settled on a 7703 which has everything I want and is on run out, so pricing is getting better daily. Alternatively an MC-700 as a short term measure, with 25% UFL, has some advantages. Maybe the December Podcast will be of some use in the decision making process.
Cheers Gary
