One thread is not nearly enough, so I'll throw my hat in the ring. I built a matched set of surround speakers for my living room. It's not all done yet, but I did put up a photo gallery of the build process. They are loosely based on (and use parts which directly descend from) the EPI 50 bookshelf speaker. Six inch woofer and a concave dome tweeter, speakon jacks so they'd be pretty from all sides. The stands hold different types of media: the surrounds hold about 30 DVDs each, the fronts hold about 30 records each, and the center holds 50-60 CDs (and the XPA-5). The internal volumes of the front three speakers are exactly matched, so they sound essentially identical. End of the road for the Surround Six. by dualityk, on Flickr www.flickr.com/photos/28626887@N05/albums/72157686580235716They sound pretty good. [edit] Oh yeah, they're HUMAN Speakers drivers. Made in the good old US and A,

I love that finish. Wood grain is one of my weaknesses.

Thank you! It's solid oak trim, and oak veneer for the surfaces; the veneer (and the stands) got stain and the trim didn't, then some tung oil finish for the whole thing.

Garbulky, can't say I ever heard of those, but I can certainly see the family resemblance you're seeing. I started with the notion of an 8.5x11 footprint, and sorta went from there. The center channel was a big thought experiment that was trying to solve the problem of getting the drivers as close to the screen as possible (vertically), as well as hiding the monster XPA. Not a lot of good ways to make one of those disappear.

Very nice work and a nice bonus that they're multi-purpose. Scott
