I am currently using 75ohm coaxial cable to feed my subs but, I want to make a change. It's about a 25' run around the world to keep the cables out of site so, I am pretty sure I'll run XLR from the XMC-1 but, my subs don't have XLR input, only L&R RCA. Question is, do I loose the benefit of the balanced cables for running that distance when I put the XRL to RCA splitter at the sub end? On the other hand, should I just stick with some good quality shielded RCA subwoofer cables?

Stick with a good RCA, you won’t benefit from only having XLR on one end, and you have an adapter that could come loose, or create extra torque on the connector.

OTOH, if you think someday you might upgrade your sub with one that does have a balanced/XLR input, and you don’t want to run another cable, then do the XLR w/adapter.

Given the choice I always prefer to use XLR cables but only with XLR connectors at both ends, I'd prefer to use RCA rather than an adapter.
I have two subwoofers one has XLR connections and one doesn't so I use an XLR cable to one and an RCA to the other.

I ~think~ that you'd still get some benefit for using an XLR cable for the long run because of the center differential signal lines being twisted which should give you some Common Mode Rejection and the outer braided shield which would be grounded at the XMC-1 side ...

Casey So, that is my point to ponder, even with an RCA splitter at the far end, will I still benefit from the XLR's ground wire? Thai is, benefit over a double shielded 75ohm low impedance RCA?

I am currently using 75ohm coaxial cable to feed my subs Not a big deal but the standard for audio interconnects is 40/50 ohm. Using 75 ohm is common as it can be interchanged between digital (that likes 75 ohm) and analogue that works OK with either. In regards to XLR with RCA termination one end versus RCA all the way, there is technically very little difference if any. Usually the RCA termination simply takes 2 of the 3 connections in the XLR cable, the common/centre/earth and one of the signal channels. The other channel is left unterminated which negates the big advantage of XLR over RCA being the rejection of induced noise via one signal channel carrying a reverse polarity signal to the other (hence the term "balanced") with the electronics needed at both ends to complete that task. If the sub woofers don't have an XLR input then they don't have the circuitry to make it worthwhile using a balanced connection. Cheers Gart

If the XLR is not the connector on both ends than there is no point because to complete the ground circuit you need both ends. Thanks Gart

I purchased a 25" Mediabridge sub cable and it's been great.
