First, I should note that I've made a few changes to my HT setup this year, so the system currently looks like this: Main Processor: Anthem AVM60 Stereo Preamp: XSP-1 for HT bypass Amps: Anthem MCA325 for front stage (LCR), XPA-5 Gen2 for the rears and surrounds, BasX A500 for the 4 Atmos speakers Source: Oppo 205, with HDMI out to the AVM60 and XLR out to the XSP-1
I integrated the XSP-1 into this arrangement so that I could enjoy the Oppo 205 DAC for stereo without the signal being re-processed by the AVM60. So the front LR and subwoofer channels run out from the AVM60 to the HT bypass inputs on the XSP-1 via XLR cables, and the XLR outputs from the Oppo run into the Balanced 1 inputs on the XSP-1.
When operating in either HT bypass mode or direct mode, the audio sounds great with no complaints here. The problem is what happens when I switch from HT bypass to direct or vice versa... regardless of the volume level set on either the AVM60 or the XSP-1, switching the mode causes the front LR and subs to emit a very loud THUMP sound. This also happens when powering the XSP-1 off or on. The way I've gotten around this is to get up and switch off the front stage amp and the two SVS subs connected to the XPS-1 outputs before making a mode switch or messing with the power state.
Any idea what the cause could be, or if there is some type of fix aside from my manual workaround? I should note that I had the XSP-1 in to Emotiva for warranty service several months ago, so it's recently been issued a clean bill of health.

It happens regardless of volume set, and with the same intensity... doesn't matter if I have the volume at reference level or whisper-quiet.

I have the XSP-1 and I can switch between inputs and HT bypass with no hiccups. also into a multichannel (5ch) amp. i doubt it's the xsp-1. I found this post because i was thinking of getting an AVM 60 (that or XMC-1)
