Silly question but-
I am wondering if it is bad or bad for the wear and tear of an Emotiva Amp (USP-200) and Emotiva USB DAC (Stealth DC-1) to hard power them off from the wall switch?
The DAC will be off (via the remote) but the Amp will be on (not standby).
I have the Amp tucked away under a table and sometimes CBF bending down to turn it off and just hit the wall switch when I turn my PC off.
Cheers

One of the problems with the DC-1, no trigger.

My Parasound setup is good at shutoff. The amps 'wait' about 2 minutes after the preamp shuts down THAN I hear the click of relays and the amps are than off. Nothing out of the speakers. But, if I have headphones plugged into the Preamp? BIG thump @turnoff. The Vol Control makes NO difference in this thump. It is Pretty Loud and I've taken to unplugging the headphones prior to shutdown.

Ill piggyback here.
Im out of outlets behind my equipment rack. Is it best to plug an amp into the wall outlet or can I use an outlet in my power conditioner?

I'm prejudiced in favor of direct power for amps. Power conditioners and amps, IMO, don't usually work well together. Amps can sound lifeless thru a conditioner. Maybe a power conditioner can't pass the current quickly enough? If you do NOT rent, can you get a new circuit dropped? An electrician is needed unless you are VERY handy. I plug all my high power stuff into its own circuit while the low power stuff is on a 'house line' and thru a power conditioner with Isolation Transformer for just the Digital stuff.

I own my house...I was actually debating running a new line in off a 20A breaker for the outlets my TV, power conditioner, and amps plug into. Seems like its best to play it safe and have all the power you need since Im this far into the habit.

Never been a fan of anything that goes thump on my headphones or speakers and whether my project studio or my audio play system, amplified anything off 1st than the preamplifier then the source. I disconnect my headphones out of my mixer or headphone amp before shutting it down, or at the very least turn the volume to zero. I am old fashioned yeah, but it works. Never worried about anything that way. I never use a wall switch or power strip switch of any kind to shutdown gear. Just me. Your mileage vary.

I used a dual amp breaker since I had only one spot left in my box. It was just as easy to run two lines as it was to run one so I figured I might as well do two.

Cheers Not a silly question at all and you got the Emotiva answer from the man that knows. For discussion sake, the broader answer is, depends on whose gear it is. In my case (Sunfire) that would scare me and when I pull the plug on my amp. It is with great care. When “the beast” gets plugged in you know it, because The idler power supply engages, warms up and stays that way all the time, until it receives an audio signal. When the show’s over, the amp. Circuits shut down after 15 minutes or so, leaving the idler supply on. My point would be that I want that idler warmed up 24/7 unless I’m traveling, then we pull the plugs. Bill

Headphones thru preamp do so at power off no matter WHERE the vol control. So I unplug prior to power off. nothing audible makes it to the speakers. As for switching thru a power conditioner? Mine has outlets with time delay relay, if I chose to use that feature. At power on with the conditioner switch, it'd wait than power up OTHER outlets so i could avoid problems that way. I have no idea what outlets are what relative to the switching since I don't use that feature. You can assign 'times' to this feature and I think also have some power OFF options.
