I have a UMC-1 with what is now a very simple stereo set up. Cable box goes to UMC-1 which goes to a 5 channel amp of which only two speakers are attached (L&R).
The problem I have is that often when I change channels, the UMC-1 switches to Dolby, or PLXii (or whatever it is) or something else and the sound is rendered useless until I manual switch it back to Stereo.
The question is how do make it so the permanent default is Stereo so it will stop switching around? I am sure it is in the manual somewhere, but I have a bit of trouble with the technical writing and could use some plain language instructions if anyone is willing to give it a try. Thanks.

Hello,
Make sure you only have the Left and Right speakers setup in Menu -Setup > Speaker Setup > Speaker Size & Crossover and set L/R Front to Full, the others to None. Then, Menu > Setup > Advanced Playback, pick the Input, click right arrow, and set Analog/DD 2.0/etc. to Stereo.
Hope that helps,
C

Cory has the right solution. Another way is use analog output from your box, then the preamp will only see L&R.
