One of my ASM-5s is going bad. It has many hours on it and has given me much pleasure but with just the power cord connected it is doing a snap crackle pop sound. It is not the power cord and not hum. Just giving everyone a heads up. These things happen over time with gear and what can you do ? Get a new one.

One of my Airmotive 5’s is starting to do the same thing, so far (fortunately) it just crackles for a minute or so when it’s just turned on, but I expect over time it will get worse. I had a subwoofer that did the same thing (all the time), a call to the manufacturer got me the info I needed to replace a low quality capacitor with a new, better one, problem solved. The hardest part about the fix was getting the ‘goop’ that coated all the components off (there to prevent the subwoofer vibrations from rattling the components apart). I’m hoping Emotiva might have the same info on the Airmotive 5, and that it could be a relatively easy fix.

Or maybe just replace the whole amp board, if Emo still has supplies. A few years ago, I had to replace a sub amp while it was still under warranty. Emo shipped the replacement amp to me.

That would be cool if Emotiva could supply new or refurbished amp boards for the Airmotiv monitors. If they were not going into storage maybe I would call them. I will get the latest model in 2022.
