New cables arrived and unfortunately they didnt fix the issue. No change at all from the previous behavior Messed around with the startup behavior of the devices a bunch and no change no matter the order. If i power the projector up first it says no source found (as expected) then i turn on the mc-700 and it goes to the 720p 60hz and just a black screen. If i turn on the Sony at that point im still at the same black screen. If i hit the menu button on the emotiva it does switch to the fullscreen menu but as soon as i exit it goes back to the black screen I didn’t think the MC-700 had an OSD on the 4K compatible HDMI output. Are you sure you’re using HDMI Out 1...? Yeah using HDMI out 1. It is not a typical OSD, it doesnt overlay over what is there on the screen already. When i hit the menu button on mc-700 its cuts over from whatever was playing to just the menu

Sounds like a good time to sell your MC700 and pickup almost any off the shelf 4k Avr or prepro just in time for Christmas. I install home theaters for a living and never have these problems with cables trying to get them to work with a device like the MC700. All of this time wasted and frustration on this unit geez. I am going to give the forced settings a shot but if those do not work i may look into that. Hate having to buy an AVR but this is starting to get really frustrating.

I don’t own the MC-700 and am not defending it, but maybe you missed the part about having the same issues as the OP with this same player going directly to the TV. I agree with you that most “off the shelf” AVR and AVP solutions from the big box brands seem to have a higher success rate, but most all of them have their own internal video processors which present their own programmed EDID. To the sink, the AVP is the source and to the source, the AVP is the sink. When you’re allowed to play loosely with the tolerance of the spec, you stand a better chance of having things “just work”. AVPs that use just a simple HDMI repeater (and there isn’t many) add nothing but their own electrical resistance to the HDMI chain. The source still must communicate directly with the sink. If you’ve never had a problem with cables on any 4K installation, you’re either incredibly lucky or you’ve made the right choices of cable stock going in. There’s several threads over at the AVS Forum dedicated to the specific topic of HDMI cables that actually work for full bandwidth 4K. Many of these participants, including Kurt Denke (the owner of Blue Jeans Cables) are also industy professionals. When they say that many cables out there will present problems, or not work at all, when used in a full bandwidth 4K UHD application (especially when I’ve experienced issues myself), I’m going to take them seriously...

Its only with the mc-700 in the middle that the issues start. edit: and i am using the suggested monoprice cables now

I use 4k cables directly from my distributor and haven't had any issues also some of my clients provide their own cables from Amazon (luckily for them it worked) Looks like the op clarified that source to projector works. I don't disagree with the industry professionals, however they do have a dog in the hunt sales wise. I just don't face the same issues as those here that have to get in "fox viewing position" (married with children reference) just to make it work, if it works.

When i hit the menu button on mc-700 its cuts over from whatever was playing to just the menu Right, not an OSD but more like a screen swap-out. And the swap out is a bit slow at that. 1. Have you tried powering the MC up first and then either the source or the display after? That works best for me, both with my MC and my prior UMC's. 2. Agree with Doc on the forced settings for the player - the MC/UMC's don't seem to negotiate non-generic settings very well. 3. Do other devices work with the Projector, just not the Sony? I think you said it worked with the XBox but not the Sony? 4. Agree with Adaboy on returning the unit and get something else (preferably not an AVR though), OR a different UHD player as it seems the Sony and the MC just aren't playing nice together. With the screen just being blank, it has to be a setting somewhere but if we can't find it, then you just have to throw in the towel. If your MC is beyond the trial period, you're probably better ($$ wise) getting a different UHD player vs. trying to sell the MC used. With all the BF and Xmas deals you should be able to get a deal on other players pretty easily.

The only thing i noted is when i set the resolution to 4k manually i think it said i would lose the ability to upscale non 4k content (i dont recall the exact message but it was something along those lines) 3. I had an xbox one s previously and it worked but it was still finicky. I could only get 4k 24hz on it. It didnt bother me since i only watch movies though. 4. If i cant get this working ill probably replace the mc-700 since its been uncooperative with 2 different sources now. Dont want to buy another UHD player (probably an oppo at that point) and still have issues.

Although there is a Samsung player you could try that's even cheaper than the Sony and has been well reviewed. Out of curiosity, do you still have the Xbox? If so, can you try it with the certified cables? I wonder if that would have solved the finicky issues you still had. Not that this solves your Sony problems, I'm really just curious since I've had so much good luck by switching to good cables.

Just for clarification, the MC-700 doesn't provide for its menu to be ghosted over the movie in 4K. It has to turn off the video from the movie and replace it with the menu. For 2K movies it does ghost it's menu over the source material playing. My simplistic view is that the MC-700 menu is 2K so it can't be displayed at the same time as 4K. So it has to turn off the 4K to display it's 2K.
As a couple of us have suggested, I'd try plugging the Sony direct into the TV and switching the Sony's video output from Auto to YCBR 4.2.2.
Cheers Gary

Just in case, there is firmware update available from Sony, M36.R.0178 I have found issues when "Auto" selections are made. For example when the payer is talking direct to the TV they exchange what settings they can handle and pick one that suites both (ie; handshaking). With a processor in between that handshaking can get confused, so often turning off auto and manually selecting the format solves that issue. Some simple problem solving stuff that worked for me; When you say "blank screen" does that also mean no audio? Are you playing a 4K BR or upscaling a 2K BR? Have you tried a 2K BR with no upscaling? Do you have HDR On, Auto or Off? I'd try On and Off, not Auto. In the YCbCr/RGB HDMI settings do you have it set to "auto", I suggest trying YCbCr (4:2:2) or YCbCr (4:4:4) or even RGB. In the HDMI Deep Colour setting there is Auto and Off, once again I'd suggest trying off. I'd also turn Off 3D Output The half screen problem sounds like a TV Type setting, make sure it's set to 16:9. Sony also have a Screen Format selection (just to confuse the issue) I'd try both Full and Normal. Last one, Cinema Conversion Mode, default is Auto, I'd suggest trying Video. Most likely it is a combination of the above, so I'd strongly suggest only changing one at a time and then testing the result. Or you can get impatient, like me, and turn all of the Auto's off. Remember you will only have to do this once, once it works, write down the settings, just in case someone accidentally pushes the Defaults button. Cheers Gary I cant even get to the menu for the blu-ray player so i havent even been able to test a movie. Ill go through the settings and try to set them, rather than leave them on auto. Thanks for the suggestion So i tried all of those settings and none helped. Tried a reset on the Sony and no luck. For the heck of it even though i couldnt see the menu i popped in a blu-ray and it loaded and as soon as the movie started, the display kicked in and i was able to see the movie (3840x2160 @ 24hz) really wish i could figure this out

The MC-700 has serious issues with HDMI - none of my devices work at higher bandwidth resolutions through the MC700, yet work perfectly when connected directly to the LG OLED.
- My TiVo displays a blank screen when outputting 4k/60Hz through the MC700 - I can hear audio but see no picture. It will show video at 4K/30hz or lower.
- My Apple TV 4K will not work outputting 4k/60Hz 4:2:2 HDR - it only goes up to 4k/60Hz 4:2:2 SDR or 4k/60Hz 4:2:0 HDR.
These are with the supposedly full bandwidth inputs 1 and 2, and this is all with the 2.9.0 firmware. I've resorted to connecting the TiVo directly to the TV, and I set the max output for the Apple TV to 4k/60hz SDR. I hope to try the 2.9.2 firmware to see if it fixes these issues.

I'm all out of ideas other than working with Emo directly - I would think they should have one of the Sony's and see if they can replicate your issues. Maybe Sony's tech support can help explain what mode it's in for the menu's? Otherwise, unfortunately it'll be time to move on from it if they can't really assist; no point in making yourself miserable trying to get it to work.

So i am upgrading to a JVC RS640 Projector so i will be interested if i still have issues with that. (Probably also going to get an Oppo UHD Player).
If i am still having issues after i swap those out it is definitely an issue with the MC-700 and ill give emotiva a call then

Has anyone else managed to get the X800 menus playing nicely with the MC700? I just picked this player up and have a similar issue, but in my case the MC700 acted a little different. I can start a disc playing and then flip to the MC700 input and the disc seems to play fine. If I ever hit stop and go to the menu, something weird happens. I get an all pink screen that I can kind of see the X800's menu through. The really odd thing is that if I then switch to another HDMI input (input 4 in my case), then the problem persists and I get an all pink or all white screen even with normal 1080 content. The issue remains after putting the unit in standby. The only way to fix it is to power off with the switch on the back and wait a while then power back on and the MC700 will act normally again.
This is not a cable issue, I'm using the BJC cables from player to MC700 and then also to my LG C7 OLED. Since the problem remains on other inputs until I do a hard reset, I can only assume that this is some kind of firmware issue where the X800's menu puts the MC700 into some kind of mode it can't recover from.

When you say "disk", what sort if disk? CD, SACD, DVD, BD, 4K, or DIY?
Merry Xmas to all Gary

In this case, it was a UHD Bluray - Planet Earth 2. I get 4k with HDR and it works fine, but the X800 menu throws the MC700 into this weird mode.
