So, kind of out of the blue my 13 yr old son asked for a stereo system that he can setup in the basement where he and his buddies hang out and play ping pong, pool, X Box, etc. He currently listens to his music from Spotify thru headphones mostly. Not sure what he will go with in the future for source material, he thinks I'm crazy messing with vinyl. He listens to Post Malone, Drake, Big Shaq, Eminem, Big Sean, etc. He likes stuff with lots of bass. I was looking at the options for putting together something for him and came up with these two options -
Option A
PT 100 Airmotiv 6S BTM 1 or Chromecast Audio
Option B
TA 100 Airmotiv B1 BTM 1 or Chromecast Audio
His birthday is in February so I thought that we could get him a BasX S10 or 12 if he wanted a more low end. Even though it is several years away I'd like to get him started with something that would work well in a dorm room or small apartment when he goes to college.
Any input is appreciated.

For the money option A would run you, you can add a sub to option B right away.
With the kind of music your son likes the B1's would definitely need a sub btw. They're fantastic speakers but fairly bass light

I used to be your son:) It's all about that base. My dad bought me an M&K sub and I was on top of the world.

Do you really want to hear all that bass?

Every second he hears all that bass, he is reminded that he knows exactly where his teen son is, in the basement. Worth a bit of bass!

Trey Certainly good to encourage the enjoyment of music, and give him a welcoming space at home. I would still forgo any thought of a subwoofer—he’ll still be able to hear the bass. When I used to crank the bass on our console stereo, my dad would yell “turn down the boom booms!”

Do you really want to hear all that bass? No, that is definitely not my thing. But, I'm thinking if I get him something better than a Sony stereo in a box, something that he can build on as he gets older, that I can begin to get him to appreciate better music and how it can sound. That stuff certainly isn't all he listens to, he also likes older alternative like Nirvana, Limp Bizkit, Pearl Jam, Everclear, Jane's Addiction. I understand now how my parents felt with some of the stuff I used to listen to as a kid. I'm good with the alternative but I just can't get onboard with the rap.

He and I have been talking about the fact that there is a limit to what really sounds good with the bass. He's a smart kid he'll get it.
