I'm not going to post links because they are all over the place, so you can find them yourselves, but the latest reports / rumors are saying that J.J. Abrams is now in cahoots with Quentin Tarantino (who is pushing to direct) a new Star Trek film. Tarantino has supposedly already made his push and spoken with writers, with The Revenant's Mark Smith in the current lead. At Tarantino's demand, it will supposedly be rated R. And according to other reports, Patric Stewart has been quoted as basically saying he's all for it, loves Tarantino's work, and would love to be back as Jean-Luc Picard.
I think this has controversy written all over it.
What say you? The forum is now open for discussion.......

Not a fan of his movies, if he directs a Star Trek they will all just sit around having endlessly meaningless conversations and never actually Trek anywhere. Followed by the random squirting bloodfest.

It amazes me that with all the geeks here on this forum, there aren't more passionate Sta Trek fans here with an opinion on this.

I am not sure how I feel about Q.T. directing a Trek movie. I am a huge TNG fan, and I also enjoyed DS9 a lot, and I somehow made it through all of Voyager. I really liked the Star Trek reboot movie (not going to worry about Cannon, just thought it was a fun movie), but the 2nd and 3rd ones were honestly not that good. Seems like sort of a hail mary on QT being in the chair for a Trek movie. But I would rather him direct it and the franchise go out on it's shield than what happened with the last TNG movie (Nemesis). That movie ended the TNG run with a wimpier and felt empty. I feel like if they were to make another Trek movie in the vein of the last two that it would basically kill the franchise for the next 10 years or so until it would be time for another reboot. Now how would they get Picard in one I have no idea. I would love to see it, but I cannot imagine a way they put him in a Kelvin timeline movie.

OK, I'll bite. What the hell was wrong with JJ Abrahams directing?! The first two Trek movies were awesome and the third one, they had to find a director because Abrahams bailed to direct Star Wars. QT is a very good story teller, but his flavor of gore and violence isn't what the Trek universe was ever about. I say find someone else or stop with the franchise until you can find a good director who understands the genre and doesn't need to decapitate someone to tell a story.

I say find someone else or stop with the franchise until you can find a good director who understands the genre and doesn't need to decapitate someone to tell a story. I don't have any issue with JJ, as I said I really enjoyed the 2009 Star Trek movie. I just felt as though the last two (one by JJ and the other one by Lin) were not that good. Not sure how to quantify it, but I have re watched the 2009 Star Trek several times, but I think I have never re watched the second two even though I own them on blu-ray. The box office results also kind of tell the sames story 1 Star Trek Par. $257,730,019 2 Star Trek Into Darkness Par. $228,778,661 3 Star Trek Beyond Par. $158,848,340 Just a steady decline after 2009 (big drop off for #3). These are just US numbers and I understand that international plays a big part as well, but the point still shows that interest is waning in the franchise. My concern would be that they make another film like the third one and it kills off the franchise for a fairly long time. I have a great deal of reservation about QT making a Star Trek movie, but my gut tells me he understands the source material enough that he would not make it a gore fest (I may be naive/optimistic with this though). It just that Trek is kind of in a tough spot right now and if a 4th film (Kelvin TL) gets green lit it has to be a success. I am not sure if it would be a success with Q, but it would at least get a buzz. It could also ruin the franchise for a long time, so there is that.

Tarantino would make an amazing movie but the idea is so out there with Tarantino's style, I couldn't even imagine it. I don't think he's ever done a sci-fi movie.

So, will John Travolta play Obi-wan in the new Star Trek movie if Taratino directs? And, maybe William Shatner could play Darth Vader!
That would be so cool!!!
