I am switching to a processor from an a/v receiver soon. I currently run a 3.1 system. I already run my mains with a 2 channel amp and my center is powered through the receiver. My question is: can I power my center with a basx A-100 by using the center channel pre-out to the left input on basx a-100 and only connecting to center speaker through the left channel speaker terminals? Seems to me it might be possible since the amp will be receiving the center channel signal, but I don't know how the amp will respond to only having one input and 1 output. Thanks in advance.

It will work whether you only use the left or only use the right. I assume it has the same shared power supply design as their other amps and if so, as a bonus, you'll have the total power available to that one channel since the other channel isn't taking any.

Is your center biamp or biwire capable?
Could you not use the center preout to the left input on the a-100. Then use the left preout on the a-100 into the right input on the a-100 then use both channels to power one speaker? That way you’d be utilizing more of the amps power.
I might be way off but I’ve been wondering this for a long time as I’ve been considering this amp for my center as well. Can’t find any answers as to if this is a good idea or not.

That should work... just be sure to remove the "bi-amp jumpers" on the speaker. Is your center biamp or biwire capable? Could you not use the center preout to the left input on the a-100. Then use the left preout on the a-100 into the right input on the a-100 then use both channels to power one speaker? That way you’d be utilizing more of the amps power. I might be way off but I’ve been wondering this for a long time as I’ve been considering this amp for my center as well. Can’t find any answers as to if this is a good idea or not. |

I am also curious. I have a Basx TA-100 and currently listen to music. I have the TV optical cable going into the TA-100 and noticed in the manual (5. Subwoofer outputs), "this signal could also be used to feed a separate center-channel speaker" ?
So do this mean I could use the TA-100 and power two speakers also a center channel ( which will be active when the TA-100 is running in OPT mode) ?

Kinda... sorta... The TA-100 is a stereo device... So, if you're using optical from your TV, you are using "two-channel PCM"... The subwoofer output on the TA-100 outputs a summed Left + Right line level (pre-out level) analog signal. This is a LINE LEVEL output... so, in order to run a speaker, it needs to be connected to an amplifier. It cannot power a normal (passive) speaker directly. (When you connect something to the input of a modern powered subwoofer you are actually connecting it to the amplifier in the subwoofer.) So you could connect that output to an amplifier... and connect that amplifier to a center channel speaker or speakers. HOWEVER, that signal is a summed L+R signal. In the old days many people did in fact run a center channel speaker from a summed L+R signal like that... and it usually sounds pretty good. However it is not technically exactly the same as a "real center channel" on a surround sound system. I am switching to a processor from an a/v receiver soon. I currently run a 3.1 system.
