I have had a couple requests for my 2 cents on my new Hana SL low output moving coil cart...Soooo I am going to do the review how I wish reviews were done. Real world style! Just a short list of bullet points and a couple of supporting words (Tell me what you think!)
Hana SL Cart Price List $750 (NEW) -Paid $650 (Don't let them tell you they won't discount) -Packaging: Little Spartan box w/2 screws, stylus brush, screw driver 1 page instruction book. -Set up: Easy but needs a little TLC Due to the Nude Shibata Diamond The EL is Eliptical and a bit more forgiving.
-Sound: After a carefully logged 80 hrs I settled in at a Loading of 175. The sound is in a word amazing not just for the price point either. Compared to my Cadenza Black ($2,700) it is more laid back and not as analytical nor resolving, slightly warm but with a very good soundstage (which is my favorite). Compared to my Cadenza Bronze ($1,800) it was a bit more dynamic (maybe due to the higher output) with a bit less decay, as wide of a soundstage with a tad bit less height and depth and not as resolving. Compared to the Ortofon 2M black (same price) it sounded more like music and less like a CD the 2M black is a great Dynamic Cart but is VERY forward and a so/so soundstage. Overall the HANA SL is a GREAT Cart that provides a very pleasing musical vinyl experience with a generous soundstage, it tracks very well and is fairly quiet and worked well on newer MOFI albums as well as USED albums that were in not that great of shape (precisely why I bought this cart) I feel it's priced about $400 below where it should be. For the above average Vinyl listener you WILL be very pleased. Keep in mind you will need a MC preamp and at least 55db gain. They do make a high output MC.
I would highly recommend this cart to anyone who is a serious vinyl listener...The casual listener may want to opt for something from Hana's "E" line.
,,,my 2 cent's!

”Set up: Easy but needs a little TLC Due to the Nude Shibata Diamond “
TLC? compared to....not at all sure what’s meant by this other than normal care during installation.
At any rate, recalling my transition to the Shiibata, which goes all the way back to the mid seventies, departing for good from elliptical.
Simple and valid explanation, could render clean (or cleaner) playback from records with the “S” type reaching down farther into the groove where the elliptical could not go.

Great review. I have heard good things about the Hana. I recently ran across a deal on a Sumiko Blackbird. Paid $700 it was their demo but supposedly was use under 200 hours. Sounds very dynamic

Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of replacing a Denon cartridge and your Hana SL may fill the bill.

I don't know which Denon your replacing but I had a 103r about 2 years ago and used it for about year...The Hana (albeit $450 more) is WAAAY more cart then the 103r. The Denon opened up the MC world to me and for that I will always have a special place in my heart for it, it's like your 1st wife, But then you realize there is a whole other world out there and what your missing then you just take the plunge a buy a more expensive wife errrr I meant Cart!

Wish you hadn't made that comment (the cartridge part). Now you've piqued my curiosity...didn't need that right now.
