Some notes from what I remember from the podcast; Dan and Cathy are grandparents Cathy is unwell, Xmas flu, not present for the podcast. (Tip guys, move to Australia, it's summer time here for Xmas, which means beach and BBQ). Big changes next year (not allowed to talk about them)  Including the RMC-1 and "some products" that we all can guess (don't know about you but my guesses are not all that reliable)  DR's shipping first week Jan Lonnie is betting that very soon thereafter XPA-1 will be bid a fond farewell due to the DR's superiority. CES in the New Year Emotiva will be located at the Venetian. Emofest is on in 2018 (15th Emofest)  XMC-1 V3 video board is complete and will be shipping early February, also supports Dolby Vision as well as HDR10  No mention of the Atmos/DTSX board. Actually, "15th" refers to Emotiva's 15th anniversary; not necessarily the 15th Emofest, as there's only been 6 Emofest proper to date (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017).

So new DACs coming in early 2018! I'm wondering if any of them will support DLNA streaming over Ethernet? If so, I'm in. Otherwise, I'll wait and keep using my Oppo UDP-205. Has the 205's brightness abated any? Not really, but with a touch of equalization (or a pair of speakers that are less than bright in the treble themselves), the sound can be OK.
Although I'm not a potential RMC customer, the DAC releases are VERY interesting.

Boomzilla Yes boom, when they slapped a plural on the DAC’s I immediately thought, OK we have the DC-2 coming and perhaps a full sized DC-2 , as in the XDAtype of unit. And then maybe some type of streamer with DNLA. This is all very interesting. Only TIME will tell. This is the first clue that more then One DAC is on its way. |

Not much news on the podcast, but hints of a new year breakout of products. Lonnie is looking for a victory of his high power smps over the XPA-1 toroid linear design, but Big Dan isn't ready to let go of a design that works so well and is uncontroversially conventional. My advice would be to hang on to those transformer suppliers, because audiophiles are 80% (my guess) conventional minded.

As a middle-eastern taxi driver once told me in Melbourne (direct quote): "This is the greatest country in the world. You want to work, you work, and they pay you. You don't want to work, you don't work, and they pay you." Seriously, though, a beautiful, marvelous and sane place. |

Boomzilla Recall from Emofest (see notes in the Green Room, 1st post has all the info we got on the topic) they are working on a thin client stream solution to go as a plug in module for the RMC-1 AND it would be available for other products, such as their DAC's. No mention of the Airmotive S15 Subwoofer. Last I heard they were replacing the amp on it and was to be available by now. Did I miss something? I'll need to call them monday and see what's up. (I preordered at Emofest)

Yes, mqa would be nice. I just want it for streaming tidal masters. I would like to be the one who decides if it's worth it in my system. Thanks. Streaming will not get you full decoding of MQA but it will be very good. Some say that the hardware unfold isn’t worth much, they don’t really believe in the whole idea anyway. If im a fool, well,,,,,Im sure it wouldn’t be the first time. But I do like it very much. The full unfolding is done through PC or Mac web site not the app. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 |
