Any opinions why when sitting down for a listening session to my 2 channel system it usually sounds great (almost goosebumps at times) and the other night I could hardly believe it was the same system. With no equipment changes and using the same source material it "almost" sounded awful... After a few Gin/tonics I thought about getting rid of everything "almost". A audio buddy of mine thinks things like humidity, outside temp etc. all plays a part in a bad listening experience. Then I start thinking my hearing is getting worse How about just not being in the right mood? Any opinions or experiences?

Mood and state of mind has plenty to do with what and how we perceive our surroundings.
Hasn’t everybody at one time or another just had a pissy day? There ya go.
Now go fire up your system and enjoy that great sound. 😁🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼

I think electric grid demands can cause this and mood is a definite factor. I sometimes get everything fired up and the music just doesn't sound good.

Everything you said has something to do with it at one time or another (including the gin). A cold really screws me up more than anything. Bill

When the system isn't sounding good, I just keep switching out the power cord until it sounds right. But seriously, some days are just better listening days than others. Just like some days I feel more alert and awake than others. I agree with Nick, mood and state of mind have a significant influence on our perception. It's me, not the system that makes it sound different.

Put on music you really like, mix up the adult beverage or smoke substance of your choice, sit back, relax, stop worrying about what your gear sounds like and enjoy the music.

Yes mood definitely plays a big part. Also your system may simply not be optimized in placement of your speakers/room yet. Also a silly thing.... if your chair happens to move, then that may explain a lot of it. You've moved your listening postions. Try some acoustic treatments. like this one - $55 www.atsacoustics.com/item--ATS-Acoustic-Panel-24-x-48-x-2--1001.htmlEven one behind you at head level on the wall makes a remarkable difference.

When the system isn't sounding good, I just keep switching out the power cord until it sounds right. On April 15th, my system never sounds good, and I look like your Avatar. I just leave it off and let the IRS play the music, and they play it, whether I like it or not. Bill

Don’t underestimate changes in weather, atmospheric pressure, humidity, etc.

when it's cold and nasty out side my home system sounds realy sweet , but when it's 80 degrees out side the outdoor system sounds the best

At the risk of making some people upset I’m going out on a limb to answer the original poster’s question.
During the winter months I notice a build up of static electricity which honestly degrades audio performance. So my solution to this problem comes from Nordost and it’s an anti-static spray that you wipe on lightly over the cable jackets (not connectors or gear). I did it last night and got an immediate improvement in dynamics and overall sound quality. It’s called ECO 3X from Nordost and it works well.
