Hi,
What's the general feeling on this mode? I haven't really noticed it doing much. Also, you have to cycle through the menu about 8 choices in (mode) to reach the on/off toggle for this. Is there a quicker way?
Lastly, does anyone know what 'auto' does?
Thanks!

Midnight mode levels the volume for quiet movie viewing, so, things like explosions are reduced to being no louder than dialogue.
Keeps people from falling out of bed at 4am....

Auto selects the processing mode depending on the disc.

Regarding ‘auto’ - I was referencing the midnight mode, which has options: on, off, auto.

Yes I agree with the last poster.....off is the place to be, unless you’ve got a loudness problem with folks around you. That feature was commonly found in DVD players as well, though called by other names Bill

As someone who has nearly gotten myself kicked out of my apartment (when my Legacies were brand new 18 months ago I made some poor choices watching movies late at night), I think a workable "Night Mode" is very valuable. And I certainly could have used it myself when I went to ed early a couple of weeks ago and my friends decided to start Independence Day at 1am ...

I find it’s potentially a valuable option. Particularly when watching something with my wife and the children asleep. She doesn’t appreciate full range sound in the situations.
However, I don’t find it does much. I’m sill constantly on the volume button.
Anyone else have this issue for night time viewing?

I find headphones work well in these situations

So far, I don't think the midnight mode on the Emotiva to be fantastic. The Apple TV 'Reduce Loud Sounds' option seems to work better.
Do most of you listen to full range sound loudly all the time? How to you compensate for low level dialogue when you don't want explosions to blow everyone in the living room out of the water?

I prefer to watch a movie with the system OFF and simply use the monitor audio, if I need to be quiet enough to kill the dynamics. I’ve got a Fire Stick direct into an HDMI monitor input and just stream something with a good story line.
Midnight mode has had many names over the years, but it’s still the same thing. Just save San Andreas for the right night.
