So i've been ABing the PT100s internal DAC against my Burson Conductors ES9018 sabre dac and god help me I'm having real issues discerning between the two on my KEF LS50s. Whats your guys experience with the inbuilt DAC do you guys find it to be really good also?

I have a PT100 in a system now and can't believe how good it sounds. For $299 there is not a DAC that touches it. Personally the display needs to be larger and I do not like ANYTHING about the REMOTE navigation but for sound I have not heard one anywhere near this price point sounding better

I found the phono stage to be rather exellent aswell. It replaced my standalone unit which cost as much as the PT100 on its own.

The PT-100 is very similar to the sound of the DC-1. However it's not the same or as good. It's better than the XDA-1 and XDA-2.

Makes you wonder whats in those $1k+ DACs we see for sale that everyone gushes about. To me it's proof that designing & selling a decent DAC should not cost an arm & a leg. I have a Little Ego DAC and a Behringer UCA602 I've connected up parallel to one another. I can switch between the two. I suppose I could listen carefully for any sign of differences between them. I doubt there is much to find - and at any rate different does not always equal better/worse. Suffice it to say I won't be buying a $700 DAC from Emotiva, or anyone else.

I compared ERC-2 digital out-> DC-1-> PT-100 analog in vs. ERC-2 analog out-> PT-100 analog in and chose the former config for 'best' sound. However, the difference was small to my antique ears, and if the DC-1 fails I'd go with the latter config and likely not notice the difference, certainly not to the extent of paying much for a new DAC. The PT-100 is an incredible value.

I kind of agree, but have a slightly different take. I don't have trained ears; I can't even tell the difference b/n the various filters on my Big Ego, and for that, I'm thankfull. No need to stress out about it all. I can tell the difference between speakers, and between cheap (onboard) dacs vs my big ego, but beyond that, nothing. I've saved SO much money and headache. This "hobby" can be a disease if you let it consume you.

A DAC is supposed to be transparent you shouldn't be hearing any change to the sound as a result of changing DACs. It doesn't cost much money at all to make a transparent DAC and as a result a good DAC shouldn't be expensive. These super expensive esoteric designs are just fluff. You can certainly hear a difference between a cheap UCA 202 and something like an ODAC but you'd be hard pressed to tell a difference between anything else. The thing that surprised me was given the cost of the PT100 and the amount of features it offers I expected the DAC section to be compromised in some way shape or form hence why I planned to use the analog inputs of the unit with my much more expensive DAC. To my surprise and my ears it wasn't which means I can use it and have a much simpler cleaner setup with a shorter signal path.

Ive used all of these below and have found them identical Imho, and they are outstanding values in the phono preamp world.
TA-100 which is a PT-100 with an added amp section, which hits above its rating! 😁
XPS-1
XSP-1 gen 1 & 2
Only reason Im not using any of these at the moment is that the PT-100 isn’t setup for my TT yet and my cave utilizes a MacIntosh C220 which utilizes tubes.

A DAC is supposed to be transparent. Well as is everything we buy, they are "supposed" to be transparent. Not trying to be sarcastic here...if that's been your experience, your wallet will thank you! My experience has been different. I do hear differences that I consider meaningful and therefore it hurts my pocketbook! To each his own.

You may be lucky and also not hear differences between amps as well. I know quite a few people that hear/experience zero difference in electronics as long as they measure well - and almost all do nowadays. If that's the case you could be out of the door for between $200-500 total for everything. My experience has been different. I do hear differences that I consider meaningful and therefore it hurts my pocketbook! But to each his own. Hello my friend, please answer h OPs question. LOL Did I miss it?
