Hi all, I'm pretty much a noob here and could use some help/suggestions. I have the A-300 connected to the PT-100. I've had this for almost a year and love it. However, recently the A-300 seems to want to go into protect mode almost every time I turn it on. I'm not sure what is going on. I have checked the connections to the speakers and they appear to be connected correctly and tight. I have noticed a little bit of a scratchy noise from my left speaker when music is playing and I'm worried this is the cause of my issue but I'm not sure what any of it means. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Call Emotiva--do not email them. My BasX A300 quit turning on--I called Emotiva--they sent a UPS label for return. Unit was bought in September, I hope this is not a trend with this unit. It does sound excellent

If the amp stays on past the usual time it would go into protect mode; turn off the amp and add inputs and outputs one a time to see what is the culprit. If the amp goes into protect mode with nothing connected, definitely get a RMA from Emotiva.

I purchased an A300 back in late October 2017 and just this week a PT-100, so I have a vested interest in your outcome. I hope like Vneal said, that this is not a trend for these models. Let us know what happens. William

Thank you for the advice everyone. I will do the disconnects tonight and post my results after I figure things out a bit better.

Any 'Strange' aroma from amp? Or smoke, for that matter?
Strange aroma typically indicates something got HOT and may have taken out part of a circuit board which stinks to .......... As would the catastropic loss of some components.
'The Smell' indicates it needs to return to the MotherShip for service. I wouldn't even bother cracking the case to look.

My buddy is working to send back his new A-5175 that has the dreaded overheating problem. Hopefully this is not going to be a repetitive situation with the new amps. I have sent plenty of people in here to buy their amps...including the A-5175 owner.

The 5175 has a known issue dealing with a BIAS RESISTOR. Either wrong value (in ohms) or wrong wattage. Putting a 5 watt rated part in place of a 1 watt helps heat dissipation ability. The fix also might involve readjusting the bias voltage.
I don't know of any systemic complaints involving the A-300, so I wouldn't get too strung out, just yet.

Tonight I turned on the system and so far I have played 4 LP sides without a problem. Every once in a while it will do this but most of the time it shuts down on me. Rather than troubleshoot tonight I am enjoying my turntable for the first time in a while. The only thing I may have done different is that the last time the amp went into protect mode I turned the power off on the back of the amp and pre amp. I'm not sure how this could have changed things? I will continue to investigate over the next few days.
For the record there is no strange aroma nor smoke and I have not noticed this ever. Thank you all for your help.

An update on my A-300. I contacted Emotiva and ran through several tests which didn't fix anything. I sent in the amp and they replaced DC balance potentiometers in both channels (I don't have a clue what they do.) The amp is on its way back to me and I'm looking forward to connecting it to my preamp and turntable. Emotiva was really great to work with on this problem.
