No surprise, but how do we Thiel owner's get repairs now? Is Rob Gillum going to keep fixing these speakers?

Hi end speakers are a tough racket! 1st Place is a new El Dorado, 2nd Place is a new set of steak knives, 3rd is: Well here we are... Theils' strata was situated in toughest area...Priced too high for budget audiophiles and too low for the elite, the old adage "I wouldn't want to be a member..." There are 1000s of speakers available and you better have a good product at a GREAT price! I remember when I bought my 1st "hi end" speakers Def Tech BP2000 I tried some company that was selling "Reed Technology" for bass it literally had reeds inside that was supposed to resonate a better bass response! I remember asking the guy about the bass (don't forget Jurassic Park had just come out and that was the litmus) and he said something along the lines that: Well you won't feel it. It won't kick you in the gut but it's accurate...Ummm ok.

Sad. I almost bought a pair of Thiel cs1.2's many years ago, but instead opted for the decreased imaging, but increased bass of the Vandersteen 2Ci's. In retrospect, I would have been better off with the Thiel's and a subwoofer.
It is a tough business, but I hope there will always be people and companies prepared to test those challenging waters!

Many speakers that became vintage with their manufacturing gone belly up are still going strong today. The company for my own went out 20 years ago, but I saw it coming. Collected a nice stash of spare drivers and network with an artisan that helps me with things I need professionally done. Everything is in new operating condition (the mains are 31 years young) Bill

I have owned 6 different pair of Thiels. The lined died when Jim Thiel passed away. It has been a low fi crap line ever since IMHO, vneal has hit it on the head. Jim Thiel was a visionary designer who had the technical ability to turn his ideas into reality. After he died, the vultures tried to profit off the name, but without the vision or the technical innovation. They flopped, and now they're completely gone. Good riddance. There aren't many Jim Thiels around, and even the ones who are "basement geniuses" at building an innovative one-off pair of speakers probably lack Mr. Thiel's business acumen and market sense. Note that DESPITE being "too expensive for entry level" and "not expensive enough for the audiophile snobs," that Jim managed to run a profitable business for decades. Thiel didn't cheat his customers, offered support and repairs, and just kept on trucking right up to the end. I think Jim Thiel was a genius, and I'm proud to own a pair of his speakers.

I never had his ultra high end CS5s---but I miss my CS 2.4s and CS3.7s For adequate bass all models needed plenty of clean power, If I had to sum up the old Thiel models in one word it would be IMAGING

A friend contacted Rob Gillum and he will continue to repair Thiel speakers. He will have a different email and number. He is supposed to send out an email to customers.
When I hear, I’ll report.

Are any of the drivers in stock? Where? Who? Imagine the grief of replacing one of the coaxial drivers. Or a driver from the 3.7. The prices of used Thiels must be taking a hit.

I remember when Thiel was sold it was to a group in Nashville. I was having dreams of Thielmotiva direct from Franklin at 40% off because no dealer markup. Alas that was not to be.

Economy of manufacture, best practices and few quality returns are KEY. Next step is to see if anyone buys the intellectual property and name. Than to see what happens to existing speakers, price wise, on the used market.
