I did a comparison today on these two amps on xmc1...... Bryston rates as 300w in 8 ohm. Arendasound tower are two big speakers with four 8 inch woofers, and they like power! Surprised over the big difference in sound...... Bryston produced a bit tighter bass, you might say xpr was a bit moore boomier.... But the bass was deffenitley louder on xpr! I have always thought the xpr is a bit laid back in the highs..... But bryston was even moore so. The first song I switched between was Leonard Cohen a thousand kisses deep..... And there was a big difference! Xpr was moore chrisp and deeper..... And I feel that was the case with all vocals, man and woman. Not sure of the gain between these two amps...? But xpr has moore punch, and too me a bigger soundstage.... So in my opinion xpr was the winner by a miles..... The match with Arendasound is utterly gold maybe someone likes tighter bass better, maybe bryston is moore hifi correct! So I can understand if some people would like it better in that area. But in the highes and mids, the xpr is far superior! So my plans are when the DR comes, is too sell the bryston for sure! Question is two dr1s or one dr2....... Have a nice day, Asle

Sorry but let me chime in here...I always say AND maintain this as the truth..."If it sounds good to you then go for it AND enjoy"...That being said this "review" is not what I would call anywhere close to realistic. Lets look a couple things:
1. What are you using for your source components? Ie..CD, Turntable, Cassette, 8Track, Pre Amp etc.. 2. You say your Arendasound speakers "like power" well they are very efficient at 92 db. 3. You are calling the amp an XPR? Is it an XPA5 or XPR? 4. Most EMO amps are 32 db gain whereas the Bryston is a max of 29 (user selectable) so that may account for the louder sound that you enjoy.
So I am going to officially call shenanigans on this "review" until we get more information like what Emo Amp are you really comparing the Bryston too and what else are you using?

While I would not be so aggressive as to call shenanigans, I would say without a level matching focus, interpretations won't be too trustworthy. I would recommend the OP research and then revisit the test.
However, I personally would not be surprised if XPR's matched or outperformed Brystons. Bryston owners will fight that vehemently, however, considering the amount of cash they outlayed and requiring them to defend that.

I think the 20 year warranty on Bryston is very appealing.

I did a shoutout among bryston monos, parasound monos and the xpr-1s. I wouldn't say the xpr outperformed but they were all really close. The xpr-1's were a fraction of the others price so they stayed. My 2 cents

I did a direct comparison of a pair of XPR-1’s vs Bryston 4Bsst and the results left my good friend and audio buddy (Bryston fan boy) buying the XPR-1’s from me. Very different sound characteristics to both amps. They did not sound alike in the slightest. I’m not saying better/worse rather just very different. I’m not a fanboy of either brand so I was relatively silent during the comparison.
The comparisons were done level matched on a pair of Vandersteen 2bs on Sound Anchor stands with Audioquest Rocket 33 cables.
Granted the XPR-1’s are rated at much more power than an XPR-5 but the sound characteristics of the Bryston and the XPRs were very different on many levels.

Title of the thread says XPR-5 and that amp has a 29db gain, like any review it's to each their own on personal preference and should be taken with a grain of salt, it's great that people are allowed to share their thoughts on equipment and simply explain what they concluded with their ears and their room. Try reading and doing a bit of research if your gonna snap at someone, I'm sure Bryston is really nice gear, it's far out of my income bracket so I'll never get the chance to hear it in my room but I'm very happy anyhow Chad Sorry but let me chime in here...I always say AND maintain this as the truth..."If it sounds good to you then go for it AND enjoy"...That being said this "review" is not what I would call anywhere close to realistic. The match with Arendasound is utterly gold Have a nice day, Asle Key words It never ceases to amaze me the way certain pieces in any rig can sound great together but change just 1 piece and it can sound substantially worse. To me the audiophiles dream is to have a nearby retailer that carries a huge variety of equipment that the consumer can test in store. Then bring it home for a 1 week audition with free return. Of course this isn't reality and most would return their audition equipment and buy for less online the next day. Scott

I think the 20 year warranty on Bryston is very appealing. I didn't know they made tube amps..
