This is an FYI for anybody who is piping multichannel audio over HDMI from a graphics card: An HDMI cable connects the graphics card on my Windows computer to my UMC-200 in the next room. This allows me to play multichannel files straight, without encoding/compression (and movies of course). BUT... with the Fall Creators Update the audio stopped working (as did the printer and my other audio card). Much time-wasting ensued. I had to strip drivers and reinstall the latest etc., but the audio did not come back. Eventually I found an answer from some random guy on the interwebs who deserves a beer: The latest NVIDIA drivers assume the output color depth should be 12bpc. This apparently, um, overwhelms (?) an HDMI 1.4 cable if you are not set up for HDMI 2... I would be interested to know exactly what was going on, but in any case, changing it to 8bpc fixes the problem and the audio works again (getting the settings to stick took a few tries by the way).

Hello,
I have a similar problem. I can`t connect my XMC-1 to HDMI Audio, but only in ASIO. The ASIO4ALL panel don`t shows my NVidia HD Audio. Normal Sound output from my Laptop over HDMI to XMC-1 works good.

It is all math. Now use this calculator to figure out how much bandwidth you were originally trying to push through the cable. www.extron.com/product/videotools.aspxThis should explain what was going on. Also even though you may be close to the max for a HDMI 1.4 setup, long cables will reduce your overall BW capabilities.

ASIO4ALL is what we often call an "intercept driver" or a "driver shim". What it does is not specifically supported by the operating system, and it quite simply won't work with every piece of hardware out there, and may work - badly - with others.
