It's coming, but slowly. When they broadcast the Superbowl in 4K, they'll move a lot more 4K sets. We have to get there before we get to 8K.

So very true and as always it’ll be even slower getting anything to view in 8K, BUT, its not a dream they have some in production and,,,,,,,wait for it,,,,,,,,,,wait for it,,,,,,,,,, for sale! 😏😁

There are lots of things to worry about, but this is NOT one of them.
Are there 8K sets already available somewhere in the world? Yes, I saw one on display a few months ago in China. Selling for the equivalent of equivalent of $11K or so. However, guess what it was playing? Demo content with "4K" burned in the picture. NO 8K content yet, and outside of the coverage of the 2020 Olympics in Japan, you won't see anything HERE for quite a while.
Were there some 8K sets shown at CES? Sure, but outside of the Canon display with an 8K Time Lapse camera and the SHarp private demo with an expensive broadcast camcorder, almost all showing how good the upscaled 4K content looked.
Let's get 4K/4:4:4/BT-2020/12- or 16-bit color down first, and the FULL HDMI 2.1 needed to transport it first.
I'll wait, gladly so. This is one where I would not want to be an early adapter.

Our free to air telecasters and cable tv providers down here are too cheap to upgrade their infrastructure in a timely way or pay for more satellites to raise the bandwidth available for 4k let alone 8k .. Netflix is a new phenomenon to us We did get mpeg4 compression for fta but instead of higher quality pictures we just got more sd channels Interesting perspective on the new red cameras here vvv and how 8k can improve colour without an interpolation algorithm . Explains why 'the revenant " was so widely admired being shot partly in 6k with a large sensor.. nofilmschool.com/2016/01/guardians-galaxy-vol-2-red-weapon-8k-full-frame-vista-vision-camera

Oh, this is no surprise. 8K will come, and so will 16K. Because whether we need it or not as consumers (and we won't, really), TV makers will always have a need to give us another reason to buy a TV. It would be awesome if my Panny ZT lasts another 6 years and an 85" 8K OLED is available for $3000 by then. I could just skip 4K all together and be done with it.

By the time 8K TVs are below $3000 you will have 32K TVs and we will be here still waiting for the V3 HDMI Board Upgrade to be released LOL

Yes both 8-16k will com in time though to take full advantage for it you are looking 75-100+ ninches for it from what I can see you can shove it in at a lowest screen size plausible and that is 32 inch though i doubt you will see the full effect until you go up in size..
reality of 4k in terms of film resolution you are physically talking 75mm size and omni type screen size..
even as 55 inch 4k can look shithouse...
the happy start medium for viewing pleasure is about 60-75 inches and up...
I think as we goto 8k or higher we're looking at a new standard of data capacity and I doubt the connection will be derived from hdmi...
