Beautiful, but how does it SOUND? A friend of mine is a NAD fanboi, he has more NAD gear than I do Emotiva gear Having listened to his NAD stuff (Master Series of course) many times I kinda like their in house sound, it's pretty good. Possibly because they use Burr-Brown DACs with decent implementation. Something I liked about the M17 was that the inputs and associated hardware are on user-replaceable modules. Cheers Gary

RMC-1 is way more than I need and at a price outside the budget. While I'm on 5.1 now, I'd like to have a processor that will last me at least 5-7 years (as has my current Denon AVR, now at 10 years of ownership).
The only thing is if I really need fully differential L/C/R of the new Gen 3 vice the current XMC-1 once the new HDMI board is out. There's also the other stuff of what exactly is in the spec sheet for the Gen 2 vs 3. I'd like to think that Emotiva has a 95% answer of what that is, they just haven't published it yet.

Yes it is a lot without a 40% card or UGFL discount , Ide maybe discount the center channel input/output balanced considering the gen 2 has L/R balanced anyway ? The signal noise ratio of the XMC1 is already great ; whether an even lower noise floor is needed ? As posted by Mark the XMC1 is getting the same atmos board as the RMC1 ; shows how interchangeable things are whether downrated or not..

Except that my center channel is just as awesome as my L/R, so it has to be balanced all the way across the front. The bigger thing I'm waiting for is the next generation XMC-1 that is fully differential for L/C/R. That is something the current XMC-1 generation doesn't have nor will when the new one comes. I think I'm ending up going XMC-1 when Gen 3 comes... I got an e-mail back from Anthem and they said that they do have plans for an upgrade path due to HDMI 2.1. But, no further info. I don't expect Emotiva to have an idea about 2.1 yet either as the RMC-1 and next-gen XMC-1 still have yet to hit the street and the V3 HDMI board is coming next month.

I think the original poster should read this review of the XMC I hometheaterreview.com/emotiva-xmc-1-72-channel-av-prepro-reviewed/?page=2From the above link. "Here's the thing: I know I'm going to get nailed to the wall for saying this, but the processor that I personally feel the XMC-1 should be compared with is my own beloved Anthem Statement D2v ($9,500). Because it's the only other AV processor I've auditioned in my home that stands on the same ground as Emotiva's offering, sonically speaking."

Just mention you need emo's quad differential balanced power amps to have a fully balanced input to output system ; if that factors at all. HDMI2.1 has only just come into consideration with the Denon/Marantz offerings only just announced . Whether you like any of the features it may require a wholesale change in your componentry. And 8k video is ages away . We are working on emo time so that may well be the decider for you ; its certainly hard to make a decision when information is at a premium Ime considering things too..

I think what kind of annoys me is Anthem's response to my question about the HDMI boards being modular and upgradeable... "We have an upgrade path." Not a good explanation, hence why I like Emotiva, they are part of a community, from the CEO all the way down.
I'm not worried about 8k specifically as content won't be fully available for 5-7 years. But, dynamic metadata on HDMI 2.1 is more intriguing...
I just got a DR-3, so I am fully differential across L/C/R for the amp. I just need to hunt down this incredibly annoying ground loop I have since I have to use the RCA pre-outs on my receiver for now... An hour spent last night trying with everything unplugged but the amp and my Transparent Audio Powerwave and the hum is still there...

Yes ; exactly what I don't like about other ce's ; not even a hint of whats to come.. I wouldn't worry about HDR dynamic metadata passthrough ;hdr10+ and dolby vision are fine over hdmi2.0b ;[ if anything else turns up get a hd fury vertex ] Mentioned the quad differential power amps as Emo has an unusual nomenclature that distinguishes between dual differential and quad , an owner would be better suited to explain Modular amps are perfect for object audio ;nice choice .
